between these tire choices for 97 civic, need your opinions

About to replace my Nexen 5000 with something this week and I am torn. My budget isn't much beyond $400 total, and between Tire Discounters and Discount Tire My choices seem to be pretty much Nexen CP672, General Altimax RT, and Discount Tire just told me over the phone they are overstocked on these Michelin Destiny Tires and they will give them to me for $400 out the door....he did say they are a slightly bigger tire though, 5mm thicker.

I wasn't that thrilled with the Nexen 5000 I had.....they were great at first, but I soon discovered they felt sloppy in the rain. I don't know much about these General Altimax tires.....Tire Discounters told me they stopped carrying them, but they are available at Discount Tire......And I don't know anything about the Michelin Destiny's other that it seems from some forums they stopped making them....and I am concerned about them not quite being the right size....not sure if 5mm difference is a big deal or not.

Anyone have any advice? Thanks.

What size are the Michelin tires? 5mm taller is not a big deal.

I can't remember the exact size he rambled off, I just remember him saying it was only 5mm thicker than what I currently have.

First off, what is your rim size? Do you drive aggressively? What are your driving habits? Is the car lowered? You've provided no information about the car but are wanting to know what tire to get???

What size wheel?
Priorities for tire choice(performance, wet, dry, all season, summer, tire life, etc)?
Why haven't you looked at TireRack?

car is not lowered, not tweaked in any way.

TireRack doesn't appear to have reviews for every tire....
I have tried to do as much research on my own as Google can provide, and I'm not finding anything conclusive.

Priorities....All Season.....I would like a little bit longer tread life as I don't like going through the process of getting new tires....this decision alone is driving me insane on what to go with, so the fewer times I have to put myself through this the better.

Your car factory comes iwth the same as mine, 185/65/14. DTD has better deals than TR, always, and will price match if you call them too.

So you simply go to www.discounttiredirect.com , click tires, either put in your vehicle or put in the tire size I said, and BAM. 2 pages of results with reviews and a lot of them with rebates.

Don't let the internet and especially other people do the work for you........

Different people will give you difference answers. Some people like certain brands while other people like other brands. Go to DTD and TR and read all the reviews. Like Puma said, put in your vehicle, sort by all-season and price, and go from there.

By doing that on discount tire's website, my vote for what you have said for what you want out of these (which looks to be tread wear rating) would be the Michelin Defenders. Michelin is an great tire brand and the 80-90 thousand mile tread rating is one of the highest I have ever seen. Especially in that price range.

Can't go wrong with the Hankook's as well. They have a higher tread wear rating and look like there is a better deal going on right now with them. Mail in rebates and such.

By the way, they are $13 cheaper on discounttire.com without the "direct" in the name...
