new to hondas

hey everyone, name is Andrew from Bordentown, NJ. Just bought a 98 civic coupe, first Honda ever, and first manual car as well. Still trying to improve my driving with the 5 speed. Bought it to keep my truck off the road for a little and get a little better mpgs.

My question is my passenger side window won't go down, the motor and regulator work and it goes up but will not go down. Both switches for the passenger side don't work and replaced them with 'used' ones that allegedly worked and still nothing and I checked the fuses under the dash and everything.

Is there anything else I should check? or should I bite the bullet and buy new ones.

You'll just have to keep poking around on the window deal. I don't think anyone is going to be able to tell you more than what you've already done with out seeing it in person. Sounds like you know what you're doing anyway.

I actually had a problem similar to this with my wife's vw. Instead of going up it would go down but not back up. Have you taken off the door panel to check for connections and maybe the motor's gears ? for my wife's Vw, the motor sounded as if it worked and went down but when I took off the panel I saw that all the teeth on the gears were melted/broken so I replaced it and now it works like a champ. keep at it!

Thanks for the replies guys. I actually bought a new motor/regulator/all that through my dad who sells parts and does the same thing when I installed the new one. I'm thinking the connection is messed up somehwere along the way, i'll have to dive into it when i have some free time this week.

just to keep an update. had a window guy take a look at, says he was tracking grounds for awhile said they are good. Said there is a problem in one of the wires somewhere along the way. Sooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo one day when i'm off i guess ill tear into this thing and see if i can find this pesky wire.

alright, so i found one of the wires was loose in the passenger fender well. Reconnected everything there, still nothing. Took off the driver fender and that same wire was disconnected but that connector/pigtail/whatever that's called that plug into the door is rotting away so I'm going to be looking into getting another one to just replace it all.

Does anyone know if i can only use the 96-00 civic wiring there or are there other models that can be interchanged with that?

trying to finding a picture but exactly sure what the correct name for it is.
