Your wagon is so clean man! I can't wait till I find one this clean. I just sold my last wagon (had a few) because of rust spots I wasn't happy with. I'll continue working on my K series parts gathering until I find another one!

Keep up the good work :thumbs up

Thanks! Yeah I bet it's a pain in the ass to find rust free cars in Alaska.

Well... Depends I guess. Where I live no, but if you live in one of the coastal towns probably. The problem is finding a car that's 20+ years old that hasn't already lived near the coast where 80%+ of the population lives. Most of the cars that make it up where i'm at have come from the lower 48 and brought up by the military. Of the 20-30 cars i've had/sold in the last yearish, less than a hand full had any real rust issues. And actually, my wagon wasn't THAT bad. Probably $2000-2500 worth of repairs. Not THAT bad, but still... I have a garage full of K parts worth a couple thousand now. I just want the perfect chassis to use for a complete project car I want to actually keep for once. LOL

I've got some rust I need to take care of too. Not too bad, but it takes priority over modding right now.

So I cleaned up the wagon a little today. I have to park under trees sometimes at my apartment so sap gets on the car. Bleh. I washed the car to try and get the sap off, but it didn't really do anything. Then I tried using some Turtle Wax tar remover stuff, and it didn't really do anything. Finally I just used some Turtle Wax polish on the car, and that did the trick. I also fixed my bent passenger door trim.

Taking the trim off wasn't too bad, although I did break one of the little white clips that hold the blue clips on. Fortunately the blue clips have two white clips so it stays on.

After taking the trim off

Since it was so dirty I went ahead and cleaned it up a little

Not the best picture, but now the trim lays flush with the door all the way down instead of sticking out from the door at the front.

Also, I think I'd rather just buy a whole new door than ever take that trim off and put it back on again lol. Putting it back on took me like 30 minutes. It sucked.

This is why I love wagons. Wagons are the pinnacle of the automobile, and I'm not sure why they bother making anything else. lol

Finally, I took the wheel covers off to see how I liked the way it looks without them. I'm still undecided if I think it looks better or not. I still think it might look better if they were white though.

Still semi-undecided on steelies. I'm still rolling on them right now, but something else has come up. Went to a car meet last night, and the guy who had previously quoted me $300 to fix my rust was there and took a look at my car again. This time he decided that to just get rid of the rust and repaint the lower sections cheaply, meaning what he called "bumper black", he would only charge like $75, and if I bought my CV axle, he'd help me replace that as well. Last night I tried to find pics of a two-tone white and black wagon with no luck, so this morning I threw together a crappy shop to get an idea of what it would look like. What do you guys think? I don't think it looks bad, and like I said it would be somewhat unique since I couldn't find any others like it. Opinions are welcomed.

I like it, kinda has the old school AE86 panda paint job. and ive never really cared for those wheels, but that pic makes me reconsider them.

So I decided to plastidip my wheels today.

Front done

I'm not sure why I never noticed it before, but while I had the rear wheels off I noticed that the rear struts are Monroes. I checked the others and they were as well. Apparently one of the previous two owners did replace the struts and possibly the springs as well. You can see the Monroe sticker underneath. I'm not sure what that other sticker is from.

I also made another discovery. I was pretty sure the exhaust wasn't stock since it seemed too big to be stock. I was looking at the muffler through the rear wheel well and realized it was a Magnaflow. Can't really read it, but you can see the raised letters.

Finally, some shots of the wheels finished.

Looks a lot better than before.

I don't think the pics do the wheels justice, because they seem to look exactly the same as before.

Really? I think it's decently noticeable. It is in person. They were pretty faded and had rust spots before.

yup, it's the pictures. The pics of the wheels before didn't look too bad, that's why I didn't see much difference. Same with mine, really. They were faded and a little rust spotted, so painted them flat black. MY pics look the same as well. Actually have been thinking of painting my steelies white (have a white 4 door 99)
