WIll the Driver's Airbag Work Without the Passenger Airbag?

Over the last month or so, I've been removing bits from my '95 Civic in search of more lightness. Yesterday I built up my courage and removed the dashboard. I have yet to reconnect the battery, but I have a conundrum.

The passenger side airbag is useless, given that there is no passenger seat. It's also very heavy, and very ugly, AND I am concerned that leaving it exposed could lead to accidental inflation or something else untoward. As such, I would prefer to leave it out altogether (I am aware that this is not a good idea legally), but I am concerned that the computer might detect this as a problem with the whole system and not inflate the Driver's airbag. Is this the case, and is there a way that I can trick the computer into thinking that the passenger airbag is still installed?

You remove ANY part if the SRS system and it disables the whole thing.

To add to this if the SRS light is on (even with the system intact) the airbags will not deploy.

The good news is that the passenger airbag weights roughly 9 lbs, so it's not too much weight since you're putting it back in. Without knowing what you've done to your car there is a lot of weight you can remove very easily. You can easily make up for that airbag.

Well, I've already removed every single unnecessary piece of interior trim So I'm fairly confident that I'm passed the "easy to remove" stage :p. But yes, I know that it's not a bank-breaking weight-gain. I'm more concerned about safety and aesthetics in this case. But I'd rather have an exposed airbag in the corner than no airbags at all.

EDIT: It's back in place. I can now survive being t-boned by a fully loaded logging truck.

If the SRS light is on, then the whole system may not work.

Reset the SRS computer to see whether the SRS light stays off. If not, jump the service connector to pull the SRS code. If you do a search, you'll find a write up.
