My new 2000 civic hatchback dx :D

Recently bought a 2000 civic dx hatchback. It has no rust and has all original parts. Only 182k but has been maintained very well. I'm so glad to have found it and only paid $2000 which I think is fine because of the condition it is in. The picture isn't that good but I'll post more later. I just had a few questions
Should I switch the stock alarm system?
If I do should I get a viper alarm or is there another company you recommend?
What cosmetic mods should I add? (Heard that the d16 motor is pointless to try mod but I always planned to swap it later on)
Any common problems I should know?
Thanks

Viper is a very good alarm company. You'll be very happy with it if you decide to do the switch.
As for the mods, I wouldnt waste money for engine mods because it has pretty high miles, so a swap would be a good thing to do, like a b18b1, or if you have the money, get a gsr engine. For cosmetic, do whatever you want.

Congrats on the car!
Common problems:
1.) be careful not to break the hood release handle.
2.) make sure water does not get inside the hatch area, where it will accumulate in the spare tire location. Causing oxidation.
3.) The ignition switch has a recall, Honda will replace it for no charge. research this for more info.
4.) Do whatever you can to keep it rust-free
5.) Bolts heads breaks off. Usually happens on suspension parts. Treat the bolts before you remove them.

If the stock alarm still operated properly, i would leave it alone.
The d16 is not pointless to modify. Whether something is pointless or not can only be determined by you. So, it depends what you want out of the car.

Hecz covers the main problems!^

btw, congrats on a 00 hatch! It's still my practical dream car!!!! You gotta post pics

Other than what Hecz said, other common problems are:
Window falling off track
O2 Sensors
Catalytic Converter & Exhaust Manifold crack
Clutch Master Cylinder failure
Sun visors upholstery commits suicide and s**t

For some mods, read the link in my signature, from what I cover you should really just start off with some simple mods such as:
Wide rear view mirror
LED dome light
shift knob & shifter (If manual)

So far you seem like you know enough to start, and you're right the D16 isn't worth much to mod. Good luck :D

Thanks man! I'll get that ignition switch checked out. So I haven't driven stick in awhile but that's irrelevant. Today when I was driving, I noticed that the temp gauge was about right in the middle maybe a little less. So I left the car idling just to see if I hear anything weird. Heard something kind shake the dash a few times but it would go away so I just thought it was nothing big. But the temp gauge went up and it almost started to hit the H but then I shifted into first and drove off and it went back down. Do you know what may be wrong? I didn't have time to check if the fan was working. Could it be that?

If it gets hot at idle check your fan operation. If it is not running (very audible) when it gets hot it can be the fan itself of the fan switch. You can jump the fan to see if it works, if it does then its the fan switch or the wiring. You can check the wiring by checking resistance between two points.

It cooling down after you drive off is normal as the air flow is cooling the water passing through the radiator.

Sounds like its over heating. As yo started to drive, the wind helped reduce temperature, that's normal to happen. But if its just idling and the temp stars to rise, that's a sign of over heating. Yes, it Can be that, but i don't know exactly what is causing temp. gauge to go up without me looking at the car.
