I have a very stock 1998 Honda Civic DX...I'm new to the Honda club and im thinking about a engine swap. I have the stock engine in and im not getting the push i want... Im looking for a engine that will be easy to put in for my mechanic (i dont want to spend 900 just for him to put the engine in) I prefer something thats VTEC and SOHC... please keep in lines of being cheap and easy to put in. thanks ahead of time !

Well, you could go with a D16y8, or you could try a D16z6, both are SOHC VTEC motors, BUT both would require custom wirirng to run a VTEC ecu... in which you would need a new ECU to run the VTEC! You could also run a VTEC contorller, but it's not recomended!

vtec sohc? the d16y8 is 20hp over your current engine(y7). you can just swap the head(and other parts) of the d16y8 onto your d16y7 since the block is the same for both engines for the same result.

How To: Y7 To Y8 Intake Manifold Swap

if that's not enough 'push' you're going to have to consider a dohc engine or forced induction.

By the sounds of it, you need to do a lot of research. Look into the B16A2 as a starting point. Anything less than that is going to be a waste of time.

boost will solve all your problems, personally i think it would be easier to install a turbo than to swap motors and figure out which wiring will work and all that bull, a turbo kit will cost the about the same price of a b series vtec engine swap and net you more power. if you dont have money for a b swap or turbo just buy a y8 or z6 head and intake manifold then swap the head and run a single wire to wire in vtec
