Is there a digital kit that I can place on my '98 Civic sedan to monitor basic engine functions, eg. oil pressure, coolant temperature, etc and give audible alarm when issues are detected?
Your PCM already does that. All cars have a low oil pressure light, coolant temp gauge, etc. As far as audible alarm, I don't know why it would ever be necessary as you should always be aware of what the gauges are telling you.
If you are just wanting a digital display in place of the dash then there are products such as the Racetek but I don't think thats what you are looking for.
Yeah in stock form it's pretty much overkill. You can buy OBD scanners for your phone that can display some items. I have defi gauges in my car. They'll give a warning alarm if something is off but you have to set the parameters.
buy an obd2 bluetooth adapter and plug it into your diagnostic port then buy an app for your phone called torque lite or pro and you can pick which gauges to display digitally on your phone
