Car won't run - Multiple ODB II scan codes - P0336, P1361, P1362, P1381

I have a 2000 Honda Civic DX. I've had it for about 6 months and has run great. We use it just to commute around town and has become a very dependable car until today. My son was coming home from school and the car just died. He pulled over and could restart the car but only for about 1 second. After repeated attempts we have towed it home. I checked the ODB codes and get P0336, P1361, P1362, and P1381. My thought is that some of these codes are just symptoms of the others but really sure. I do know that the distributor was replaced with an aftermarket unit at one time (maybe 10 months ago).

Any thoughts on what to try first?

Reset the ECU to clear all CEL codes and then crank the engine for 30 seconds or let it run briefly to see which codes return. Post the codes that return.

Also check whether the distributor plug is fully seated.

cleared codes

I cleared all the codes. I checked the distributor plug and all seems good.

Upon trying an engine restart, I immediately got a P1381.

Your Civic has a D16Y7 engine. Ohm test (short/open/resistance) the CYP sensor and its two wires from ECU connector C - pins C29 and C30.

componet check

I followed the guidelines you sent and everything checked out. I ended up replacing the entire distributor and all seems fine right now. Do you have and guidelines for setting the timing?

Thanks for your help so far.

Hard to see that red mark but I think I got it. What would be a normal idle RPM once this car warms up?

You need an external tach or scan tool that reads live data for accurate rpm readings.

700 rpm auto trans

670 rpm manual trans
