Worry about maintenance first. Do a full tune up and make sure everything is in good shape before you worry about appearance.

A front lip is a good way to start. If you got money, then lower the car and top it off with some nice wheels.

That was the first thing i did,car runs great.For lowering it i was thnking coil over springs
If you want to get your best value on a budget, just go for shocks & springs. A respectable set of new coilovers will cost you well over $1000 whereas a solid set of shocks/struts & springs will cost around $600 or less if you bargain hunt enough.

EBay coilovers are a no-no. I agree with struts and springs. Tein makes good lowering springs, so check them out. For struts, koni yellows are a good choice, or koni oranges.

I can assure you your coworkers car rides like crap. For the sake of knowledge, ask him to give you a brief ride so you'll know how bad you feel everything on the rode.

FYI, I've had the orange Koni Str.T struts with Tein S.Tech springs for over 2 years without a problem or complaint. I experience no bottoming out and Ive even been complemented with how surprisingly comfortable the ride is for a lowered car. The yellow Konis are more expensive and offer an even better ride but again, if budget is a concern then the orange Str.Ts will suffice just fine.

Maintenance is key, rule out as many serviceable problems and anything related to the cars intended reliability as developed by the factory. Fix whatever problems you have before you get any modifications. For cheap modifications I would definitely recommend an LED dome light, a Broadview mirror that snaps onto your stock rear view, seat replacement, etc;

Function and form type 1 coilovers are going for $630 shipped. They ride pretty nice and can go really low if that's what you are looking for.
