99 Civic 4D manual to power window conversion

Hello I am new to the forums,

Did a quick search to find if this has been posted before, but all get me no where.

So I am attempting a manual to power window conversion for my 99 civic sedan DX i have already found a nice LX donor (and others). I have gotten all the window regulators, door wire harnesses, door panels and switches as well as relays and required fuse.

I wanted to ask is there anything i need? will i need a wire floor harness or any other harness that may be required? i have searched in many places and i am not able to find an answer.

Any replies are greatly appreciated.

Thank you

You probably need a 99-00 LX or EX donor.

you will need a new floor harness, just adding the door harness wont do anything if the wires are not there on the other side of the plug in the car. or you could try manually running the few wires needed but its probably much easier to swap the whole harness out

Thanks, i thought that all vehicles will be wired for everything and then only the "accessories" won't be there o well i guess back to my donor, and time to perform an operation.

Will i need anything else from under the console?

Again, what year are the Civic donors? All sedans? And do you plan only to convert to power windows or do you also plan to install the keyless, power locks, and power mirrors?

Hello,

Again not to be rude, but it would be implicit that my donor vehicles will be "compatible" with my vehicle, my donors are 2 99 civic sedan LX and 2 99 civic sedan EX, since i they all were missing parts i was able to compile all the required parts, to include the same color door panels, that match my vehicle door panels color.

In any case I intend to perform a full conversion power window, lock and mirrors, i have already acquired all the window regulators, all switches, door panels, and door wire harness, they do have the power mirrors so i just need to pull them out.

after a little quick test i installed the regulator and harness for the driver side, the power locks, is able to unlock all doors but not lock them, this is without installing the floor harness, i was trying to test if I would not require it.

This^ assumption reveals your inexperience and naivete when it comes to car forums. Unless you explicitly demonstrate knowledge, I and others must and should assume that you are unaware of the wiring differences between 96-98 and 99-00 Civics. In fact, when you created this thread, there was a message that you disregarded --> the requirement to provide all relevant car information for technical threads. Hence my subtle prompt to you for providing donor car information.

Excellent. Sounds good. Do you see how easy that was?

Check the wires in the door jamb connector. It's very common for wires to break in that location where the wires constantly flex back and forth. Could also be an actuator problem or a lock mechanical problem.

Yes i guess i did make such assumption, and i do know there are some difference between the models. In any case moving forward.

Truly i didn't think of the key less system since my car already had one previously installed as well as power lock, which from looking at the wiring seems to to be a hack job (done before i got the car) so i might have to think into that also.

the harness it self is intact moved the sleeves to check any missing connection or cut wires but everything seems to be correct, now keep in mind that this is still my old harness.

The keyless system of 99-00 Civics is a white box located behind the driver-side kick panel. Grab that from that donor cars in addition to the dash and floor harnesses and the power mirrors.

Yep. Install all the dash/floor harnesses and the keyless system, and then go from there.

Yes i guess here is where my main question comes into play, the dash harness, what does it consist of, i have done a lot of thing in cars but never had to work with the dash, always mask around it, and cover it properly, what is required from it, what does the dash harness consist of. this is the part where i am really inexperienced.

Here are harnesses you should considering taking - several dash harnesses, including the climate control if you also want this upgraded system, and the floor and door harnesses.

Click on each diagram to see a different wire harness.

Oh man... for me the the dash is a blackhole where all wires go to die.

Do you by any chance know if i have to remove the whole dash for this :O if that is the case i might just have to think twice about it.

Click site 1 in my signature and download the 96-00 Civic service manual. It will be invaluable for your entire project, and also provides detailed instructions on removal and reinstallation of the dashboard.

Yes i had downloaded the manuals, Thanks for everything, right now everything is on hold because of the weather, I no longer work in a shop =) so my car is parked on my driveway, and i bet my donor cars are still under a few inches of snow.

As soon as the weather break (this weekend) i will go collect the rest of the parts. I appreciate the time taken, to provide all the information, even after a rocky start =)

Thank you all. As soon as i finish i will post an update =)
