ok so I have looked through the posts and questions about rpm gauges and dash changes and get it's the blue wire with silver lines spaced apart marked on it from the dizzy I have located this wire but it seems at some stage some bright spark has decided to cut the bung ? Sensor ? Module ? off the end if the blue wire so I have now located the wire behind the drivers strut tower and wired it up to signal on tachometer but it's not sending a signal because the wires been cut . What I need to know is what's the rpm sensors actual name so I can buy a new one and require it in cheers in advance guys

What year Civic? 96-98 (OBD2a) or 99-00 (OBD2b)?

The blue wire in the distributor of your car does not carry the rpm signal. The rpm signal comes from the ECU.

Ok but if I want to hook up a rev tachometer with shift light I would need the little module on the blue and silver wire to be in the loom for any type of rpm signal to b recognised by the gauge ? Easier if u just explain what I wanna know in the question instead of goin on a wild goose chase about other things I have already read in other posts on this forum the little nod

You haven't stated ANYTHING that you have "read in other posts". Ron has no clue as to what you have already read and is no mind reader.

Until you provide ALL the information needed to answer your question, you will continue to leave with it unanswered.

Really the question is right there ?
What is the little black module ?sensor ? That the solid blue and silver dotted line coloured wire from the distributor runs to near the drivers side strut tower there is a wire u can apparently tap into that has a module on end of it the little module that the single solid blue wire with silver dotted lines runs into it and that's it the bit it runs into what's it called ?

Australia there's a pic of the piece I'm talking about in the DIY taco install in the interior section on here but I'm new to forum and not sure how to upload pictures

D16Y7 engine with an OBD2b P2E ECU?

If your Australian 00 Civic is wired the same as US and Canada 99-00 Civics, then the tachometer signal is supplied by a blue wire from the ECU, not the ICM.

Cheers I'll try find that one and splice into it will that give me a rpm signal for my taco ? So there's no wire under the bonnet with the black module u can use in the 2000 model ? Or there is ment to b and mine has been cut as there was a red connector under my bonnet that was not factory on a blue wire could this be from someone's previous taco install fail ?

For US and Canada 99-00 Civics, the blue tachometer signal wire comes from the ECU and branches to the cluster tachometer and to a 2P test tachometer connector (see diagram) under the hood. You can tap into the tach signal at the connector, if you wish.

Pulled the dash out what colour wire am I looking for behind the cluster ? Also I don't think the test tachometer plug is under the bonnet anywhere if u have face book I can send u some pictures can't figure out how to upload here yet comment ur name and I'll friend request u

Or if u have a normal picture of the 2p spot under bonnet or picture of wire from ecu or behind dash ? Wiring diagram is confusing

For US and Canada 99-00 Civics, the 2P test tachometer connector (see diagram) is on left side upper corner under the hood. It has one blue wire.

The tach wire in the cluster connector is also blue.

Mine doesn't have the three plugs only the one big grey one and it's on the right hand top corner I think mine is probably imported from japan as we are right hand drive in Australia is there any other way round this problem
