I feel like you guys are making a big deal out of snow lol. It's really not that bad.

Aside from snow tires, the best thing to do is learn how to drive in the snow. Learn car control and learn how to be a VERY good defensive driver. People become stupid when snow falls...
Buddy, I lived my entire life in hot & sunny Miami, Florida so I have no clue what its like to live or drive in cold conditions. I rather be safe than sorry & prepare for the worse. Driving defensively is definitely not an issue as the inconsiderate jerks in Miami have already instilled that awareness. Every day was a battle to avoid accidents in Miami. This is a cakewalk in comparison so far in KY.

But once again, I'd like opinions regarding antifreeze usage.

No need to run full strength antifreeze. I live in Maryland and can see single digits over the winters. I have always used a prediluted 50/50 mix in all of my cars, no problems. I highly suggest using the Honda antifreeze. Not saying others won't work well but I'm big on using OE stuff like Honda oil filters, Honda Trans fluids and whatnot.

dont run 100% anti freeze im pretty sure that is not good for the motor, the most your supposed to run is 70% anitfreeze to 30$ water and it really probably doesnt make a difference. its not really the snow that gets me, i slow down for that s**t but when the roads look clear and you start sliding thats scary as hell. if it gets down to freezing temps slow down even if the roads look clear

Winter Update

Well, so far its been a ridiculous winter, but the Civic has held up quite well. The all-season tires have performed admirably with just an occasional mild slippage, but nothing out of the norm. I havent yet gotten to perform the coolant flush but its all held up just fine. The good news is this winter has been the worse in the area in over 20 years, so if I can handle this then I should do just fine in the future. I took the following picture after I brushed off all the snow on this Civic.

Another thing I just recently learned, narrow tires are better in snow. I always figured wider is better to get better contact but tirerack said that narrow tires cut through the snow instead of riding on top. Buy the pure 100% antifreeze and dilute it to 70/30 or 60/40, you pay the same price for prediluted which equates to half the amount of antifreeze

Lol snow makes my civic into a muscle car fastback! :D

Really though, coming from someone who lives in Minnesota, snow isn't really a big deal (at least, I don't think it should be too bad in Kentucky?) The only time it's gotten a little bit unpleasant was thursday we got about a foot of snow overnight, and then friday we had like 30 mph winds so it all turned to ice...digging my car out was...fun

Anyways I'm ranting, personally I've got some crappy all season tires and 50/50 antifreeze and my car starts every time without a problem and hasn't had a slip up yet :D

I wont dare compare to Minnesota winters, but this year the city experienced multiple snow falls between 3-8 inches with multiple single-digit days and sub-zero windchills in the negative teens. I've never experience such weather in my life, and this is the worse weather in 20 years here, but it hasnt been as bad as I anticipated.
