About 130,000 miles on D16Y5 (VTEC-E) swap.
Modifications: Cold Air Intake, dropped on Skunk 2 coilovers.
I've had this problem for a while now and knew I was going to have to fix it eventually. I guess the time has come.
Yesterday, I went for a cruise on the town. No racing, no speeding, no nothing. Just a cruise at about 30-45 mph, you know, the average speed limit. Maybe for 45 minutes. I decided to park it with the engine still on and let it idle for about 10 minutes, then went to go fill up on some gas. When I tried to turn the engine back on, it turned for a little, sputtered, then turned off by itself. (That's where I've had the problem before.) I tried turning the car back on while giving it gas, but nothing gave in. If there was a pattern that I've noticed, it's that this problem occurs whenever I do high speeds at long periods of time, i.e. road trips and high ways. They also occur after idling for a while.
The first time this problem occurred(about a month ago) , I got home by giving it gas while trying to turn it over. Unfortunately it didnt work yesterday.
Since the first incident happened, I changed the spark plugs, replaced transmission fluid and the fuel filter.
After some research and feedback, I have a few options of what it could be:
-Throttle Position Sensor (whenever the engine turned over, the RPM's would idle a little higher for about two seconds, go lower to about 1,000 RPMs, then go to about 2,000 RPMs which would be at normal idle.)
-Faulty ECU
-Faulty Fuel pump
-Throttle body cable needs to be adjusted
There is a downfall to this dilemma. I took my car to autozone AND o'reilly to get the engine light code read (back when i barely bought the car in 08/13), but neither of their machines could read the computer.
Like I said, I have a few ideas of what it could be, but I'd rather have a more experienced feedback before I invest in different products that don't even have to do with the problem.
Thanks,
F.
