Dx model?

Today i test drove a 99 civic dx hatch and told the guy i would let him know in a couple days. It has 255 000 KM on it 5 speed standard and from what i researched has a d-series motor. The car is faster than my current ride (94 mazda mx3 1.6l) but i've heard the dx model is underpowered. If i pick up this car will i be disappointed compared to a civic with a b-series engine? Im 17 so im not looking into dropping alot of cash on a turbo or engine swap just things like cold air, exhaust, short shifter, little things.

Any help much appreciated!

Have you driven a Civic with B-series engine? If not, how could you be disappointed? And what is your question?

No I haven't but my question was more would it be worth the cash to save up longer, see what comes up for sale that has a b series or Will the D series satisfy me when it comes to power? I just don't want to get a car thinking it's got power and them realizing I was wrong 2 months down the road

How can anybody predict how YOU will feel about something?

If you bought a Civic with a B-series, would you quickly become dissatisfied and want a Corvette?

Forget what other people think. What do you want? Do your homework and figure it out yourself.

Ya but The price difference between a D series and a b series is a lot less than a b series and a vett. .. I was just looking for input by people who have been in this situation. How is the market for upgrades on the dx compared to the market for b series parts? Also what is the exact engine in the dx? The d16?

The 99 Civic DX has a D16Y7 engine.

Here's a link to a reputable Honda motor supplier:

http://www.hmotorsonline.com/

Browse the prices for various B-series engines that interest you.

Also start reading on many Civic forums to learn about B-series swaps. The sooner you begin to think for yourself, the better off you'll be.

Also look into forced induction (turbo) and D-series engines.

After you've done a lot of reading, then return with specific educated technical questions. Otherwise, you'll just create threads that become meaningless/useless opinion polls.

All about mpgs man, grear gas mileage and will last alot longer then that mazda thing, alot lighter, plus tons of parts a d series is good for now, u can always do a swap later down the line, plus its a hatch, which is even lighter then the coupe i would buy it and keep it

Do you only want a hatch? If so your not going to find a stock b series honda hatchback, if you find a swapped hatch then your looking at a car that possibly wont pass inspection depending where you live. If you like hp a b series is the way to go but imo a civic si isnt worth what everyone wants for them, you can get a integra ls or gsr usually cheaper than a civic si in my area

If you want to buy a Civic with a B series and not have to worry about someone else's mess, buy an EM1 (Si)

I had a 96 CX hatchback which was a bare bones car. Great on gas, 5 speed, blah blah. *I* wanted something quick without spending a fortune, but I swapped in a GSR. It was a huge improvement to me, but I always wanted it faster. Everyone around me seemed faster, so I had to catch up. That was me at 17-18. If you're going to buy a Civic to keep up with everyone else, you will be forever behind. Someone ALWAYS has a faster car than you

Buy a car you want, do what YOU want to it, and build it the way it's most fun for you.

Welcome, and good luck!

I love my DX hatch. i wouldn't call it 'under powered' as i think it has adequate power for a DD, but it's not exactly going to win any street races. The engine is good at what it was built for, fuel economy.
