B18 swap worthwhile?

Hi all, always have lurked around the forums, finally decided to register.
So I have a 99 sedan with a y7.. Im looking for some opinions. I have been thinking about swaping a b18b1 into it for awhile now, im not asking how to do it or what i need, dont worry. I want to hear if you guys and girl think thats it worth while to do it, the y7 is purely for mpg and i know that. I would like to have a bit more umph though so thats why i was thinking about it. I can get everything i would need for 600-700 dollars, which is pretty reasonable i think.
Soo, in your opinion, is the swap worth while for the time and small amount of money?

Sorry if got this in the wrong section!

If you have the knowledge and budget to put the swap in I'd say go for it. It's quite an upgrade going from the y7 to the b1. You add on about 40 hp and you have a better motor to start out with now in case you want to go boost. The torque is nice too.

2slo is right on the money. Its a fairly simple swap mainly because its been done a lot. So you will have plenty of help. You will enjoy the bump in power also. Just make sure after you get everything swapped do a very good tune on the engine.

if you can get it cheap then go for it, the y7 is so freaking gutless especially in a 4door

Do you mean ecu tune, or tune up? I might have missed it when reading up, but i wasn't aware a straight swap needed a tune?

Im 95% confident in my ability to do it, its really not that complicated.
I know the y7 is for mpg and all, but my godddd it is pathetic..

Well you will be buying a used motor so you are going to want make sure everything is order before you turn the key you know. That was my bad on my phrasing was trying to sneak a though in while eating dinner with the wife.

I agree 100%, i would chamge the timing belt, water pump, full gasket kit, etc. Before i even thought about putting it in the car.

Was reading lastnight about simple swaps and found a good write up b20's. I have never really heard a lot about them, but the b20z came stock with 147hp and 133 ftlb torque, witch isnt tooo bad. Everything i have read though says the IM on them is garbage and very restrictive, same with the EM, and the (dont quote me on on this) injectors are for some reason undersized.
Soo if you have a b20z long block, Ls exhaust and intake manifold (injectors, tb, etc.) it should bump up the hp and tq a bit more.
I know not a lot of people care for non vtec b swaps, but i like simplicity and low budget,

That would definitely be worth trying, LS exhaust and intake manifolds.. Might as well get a bigger throttle body, and port/polish the manifold.. With a proper retune, you could see 160hp pretty easily, and even without vtec, 160hp will be night and day difference from the y7.

The b20z has the same IM and EM and injectors as the B18

The b20b has the high rise intake manifold, it is really tall so it wont fit in a civic or integra.

It should still put down the same hp as a b16 with 20 more ft-lbs

From what I have read they aren't the exact same, the b20z has the air chamber box that is suppose to increase mid range torque. Im not sure if thats the only difference though, though everyone says they are very similar.
Thats the same numbers i was thinking, seems pretty appealing to me, and its a hell of a lot cheaper then the b16 swap, and more torque.
Anybody have some suggestions on the exhaust i would use, i was guessing something like 2 1/4?

The runners are slightly different, but it's not something where one is going to greatly outperform another.

I've had a b20 in an EF and now in my DA and I love it.

I would go LS and then build a turbo kit to pair with it later on down the road.

I can't really see boost happening, i.put almost 300kms on my car a day, i know you can build a reliable dd turbo car, but i dont have the money.

B20 is nice, most people boost them because they are a good platform for that out of the box, same with the B18B1. They will be good upgrades to the D16Y7 (The Y5 is the MPG monster btw ;))

If you want something to just drop in and not have to worry about again, get a GSR. They are more peppy, mpg is still very good, it'll definitely move when you want to. I think compared to the B1, it's a bit of an upgrade, costs a bit more though. I state this solely based on the information that there will likely not be a turbo, and you're looking for something peppy to do some "spirited" driving with. I had a GSR in my 96 hatch and it was an absolute blast to drive.
