Engine noise and loss of power?

This is on a manual 98 civic ex. I drove about 30 minutes on the highway to pick someone up, turned the vehicle off for 10 minutes then left. About a mile down the road I immediately began experiencing a loss of power and a loud "exhaust" sounding noise that is coming from the front of the vehicle. No codes are coming up on the dash. There seems to be no loss of fluids and the vehicle turns over and starts perfectly fine. The noise also raises the more I rev the engine. When opening the hood, it felt like I could smell a lot more exhaust coming from the engine bay. With these variables my first thought was the exhaust manifold. Any other ideas?

Thanks!

Pull the cat off and check whether it is clogged.

While driving it home this morning I found that the noise only occurs during acceleration and that is where its loss of power is. When I take my foot off of the pedal the noise is basically non-existent. RPMs seem to be unchanged at highway speeds and temperatures all seem in check. Still no CEL codes though. Although I will be taking off the cat today and updating this thread accordingly, I figured I would update some of my findings. While I'm under the car is there anything else I should be looking out for? Also, what is a good replacement brand for the catalytic converter if it happens to be clogged?

Thanks!

I drove it a bit more before I looked at the cat and it finally threw out an O2 sensor CEL code. When I went under the vehicle I found that the "bracket" holding the cat to the down pipe completely rusted out and broke off leaving the cat to hang slightly off of the down pipe (sorry if any of my terminology is off here). Is this bracket a separate piece or will have have to replace the entire pipe? Also, since the 02 sensor code was given will I have to replace the sensor as well? Currently I have the cat wired up to prevent any further damage, and after I wired it the majority of the sound went away after restarting the vehicle.

Nevermind, after looking at a diagram it seems that the entire front exhaust pipe will need to be replaced as it seems that the "bracket or flange" is welded to the end of the pipe itself. Any gaskets, bolts, etc. that I will need to purchase as well or will the pipe come with this? What's a good brand to replace the OEM pipe, or should I look for a used OEM pipe somewhere?
