My father owns a Junkyard and a 95 civic coupe was drove in and i decided i want to fix it up, it sat all winter in the junkyard before he finally brought it up for me to work on I am a Newbie to the actually having to pull and replace Correctly since i have been working at a scrapyard.

but anyways:

I hooked up a battery and turned the key and it will Crank 3 or 4 times then the battery is drained, I have used 3 different Batterys to try and figure this out but note that all 3 batterys were used and froma junkyard, didnt know if a new one would be the better choice at this point. Also was wondering if it could be the starter I havent Learned the Proper Knowlege to diagnose this yet but was looking for assistance. any help would be greatly appreciated
Thanks

Buy a new battery or charge the ones you have.

If the battery is good you can crank until the starter wires melt before it dies. A lot more than 3-4 cranks. Ask me how I know.

+1000000 to Ron. Either get a new battery and not some junk yard hand me down or charge one completely before trying again.

You aren't being very clear. Is it one crank and nothing with a NEW battery? If so, then you have a ground problem somewhere or the starter is toast. I guarantee you that a brand new battery isn't cranking once and then fully discharging. Not on a little civic.

Also testing a battery with a volt meter just sitting does nothing to determine weather the battery is good or not. It NEEDS to be load tested. You can have a battery show decent voltage just sitting but has a bad cell and drops to 6 or less when load tested.

Alright I got it jumpstarted and during cranking i have a Heavy Vibration and Knocking and I have very good sized metal shavings in the oil. i believe something is grinding so depending on what is going on i may want to motor swapp
