I have a 1997 honda civic ex with a 95 motor swap or so I think. Bought the car with the engine swap already done k&n air filter and cat delete exhaust. The check engine light has been on since I got the vehicle. There are no leaks in the car changed the spark plugs and wires air filter battery and alternator. The odm sensor has been hacked up along with other wiring but everything is hooked up pretty much. The car lags in it's full power and sometimes will miss fire and bog off. Will idle weird as well when I roll to a stop but then idle normal. I'm not sure where to begin in order to get rid of the check engine light especially not being able to get a code so help would be appreciated on what to try. It doesn't have a cracked head but crankshaft does make a weird noise heat works great and doesn't over heat any

Jump the 2 pin connector ( i think it's blue) in the passender foot well to get the CEL codes. Then fix whatever problems you actually have instead of just randomly changing or replacing things

For the stuff in larger text, definitely try to get those figured out. What motor is in it? Check the stamp on the left side of the block near where the tranny bolts up.

As for everything pretty much hooked up... what isn't?

Also, what ECU?

Do as CHILD said and jump the service connector under the dash; you'll be able to get the CEL code(s).

One of your problems is you have no catalytic converter so your getting one code for that
