If you are a looking for a import shop, One6motorsports is located in Elk Grove Village. Mark the owner is a buddy of mine and my husband's. I highly suggest stopping in and talk to Mark, Alex, Louis, Mikey or Henry if you have any questions, looking for parts or need work done. They are very knowledgeable, ASE certified, trustworthy and can steer you in the right path if need be.
Of course there is always, iLLgarage in Addison, IL off 53. Once a year they usually have a shop BBQ that has a HUGE turn out. I believe they didn't do a BBQ this year for some odd reason... Last year was pretty wild since the turn out of cars had Addison police in a frenzy. My personal experience here wasn't the greatest, but cars that come out of this shop are beasts.
If you are looking for a good dyno/tuner, Mikey at Profunction or I think it's now called Factory 5 in Burr Ridge, IL (I'd have to call him), is one of the best in the area. (in my honest opinion)
I believe Suja1 motorsports is still out in Carol Stream, IL. (Not a good personal experience with these guys.)
Tounge Factory is in the Northwest Burbs somewhere.
Top Speed is downtown-southside.
I've not heard of ProjectX doing any work on any Honda's.
Chicago craigslist ALWAYS has a ton of parts floating around. If you need something specific, there's a pick n pull on the southside near Justice, IL off 55 that usually has some good stock parts I've picked up from there.
As far as meets are concerned, you are 6 years too late. The area for meets is scarce. But there are always a gathering of all sorts of cars every Friday night from 9pm to 2am at Strats drive thru restaurant in Villa Park, IL off North Ave. Overflow parking is directly across the street in front of ORiley's if you are the sit and watch type. VPPD don't play around either.
Occasionally there is a hangout of cars at 75th and Lemont on Friday and Saturday nights.
Anything having to do with the southside, I don't bother with. If anything, those meets happen in Orland Park. No clue when or where anymore since they let a little girl with zero experience of cars run their southside only site the last 2 years. This group is clique-ish.
