Coilovers and exhaust systems

Hi im from the UK and own a 6th gen coupe vti dohc.

I dont race with it so what would be the best coilovers without breaking the bank?

Same with a full exhaust system. They are strict on emission in the UK so dont want to decat. But again without breaking the bank any good exhaust systems for these even if it has a sports cat.

Many Thanks

What is breaking the bank? For one person that is $100, for another that is $1000. If your definition is very low, I suggest saving up and raising your budget. Do it right the first time.

I would recommend figuring out exactly what your budget is and go from there. At the present, you gave us nothing to work with. Do you want it to be adjustable, how low, reliable, etc? Figure out what you want through research, only you can answer what you want in this set up. I suggest going through the sticky at the top of the suspension section. It was compiled to answer your exact suspension question, which is one that gets asked constantly.

As far as exhaust goes, your car is completely stock I am guessing? Go to youtube and pick one that sounds the best to you because it isn't going to give you anything more than a new sound.

Thanks ill have a look at the suspension section. Im guessing keeping the cat will be the biggest restriction to the exhaust setup? I was reading into exhaust changes and read it does give some improvements and better gas flow. As for the coilovers the coupe wont be track car purely a road car, i want the ability to lower it during the summer for show and raise it again before the winter. What i meant by not breaking the bank was not to pay thousands on either just want them basic but reliable e.g. not poorly built and prone to break easier. But then again not pay thousands when their is no need and its only going to be used on the street and motorway driving.

Things like reliable brands

Accessible in the UK

can a standard top mount be used

If i was to set a budget ideally no more than £200 for coilovers and hopefully the same for the exhaust system even if a very good used system will do.

Thanks

Not going to work there chief. You're looking at 5x that amount for a "reliable" coilover setup.

I think you might have missed that he listed his price in british pounds...

I think the most important question is - Why do you want coilovers? Do you want them for the adjustable ride height? If so, why do you want adjustable ride height?
Are you looking for performance benefits?

Depending on your answer, you might find that you don't actually want coilovers. Let us know what your goals are and we can help you out a little better.

I agree with going on YouTube and finding the exhaust that sounds the best. Everybody has different tastes with exhaust. Some people love deeper exhausts, some like higher pitched exhausts. Some like some crackle and pop in their exhausts, others like a smooth roar. Some like em louder. Some like em quieter. YouTube is your best bet. Just make sure you find videos with your car. Don't look up an exhaust on a mustang and expect it to sound the same on a civic.

My bad, I thought they used euros now.

So like 3x that amount, 600ish pounds

Not true on a stock vehicle with just exhaust alone. All you are going to improve worth a damn is going to be sound.

You really need to do some research into pricing. Your price range isn't any where near a reliable set up. You are going to need at least 600+ to get into brands that aren't junk.

Don't know what you mean by standard top mount.

You aren't going to be souping up performance so just go with a different muffler. No need for full exhaust. Can't get a good reliable full exhaust set up for that cheap anyway.

You have a few options:

1) reevaluate your goals because it doesn't seem to fit your budget.

2) bump up your budget because it won't get you "reliable".

3) go cheap and regret it later.

From what you've said, I'm highly doubting you want actual full coilovers. If your goal is that you're just looking to adjust height up in the winter, you can probably go with some coilover sleeves with some decent shocks. You'll still need to bump your budget up a bit, but it'd at least be closer.

If you're looking to adjust your height frequently, you're not going to achieve that goal. It takes some work to adjust the height. These guys can correct me if I'm wrong, but I'm fairly certain that it takes some time to adjust coilovers / sleeves. If that's the case, you'll want to either lower the car on non-adjustable springs and shocks, or just leave it alone.

Give us a better idea of your goals / reasons and we can offer more guidance.

Or get lowering springs with struts and top hats and just swap out the whole assembly when you want to go low or stock height. You'll also need an alignment everytime you change ride heights too

have to remember every time you adjust ride height you need an alignment, so idk what an alignment cost in your area but it cost my $80 so that would be $160 a year if i were to adjust my ride height for the winter and summer. i would either get another daily for winter time or just deal with your car being low and knowing where you can and cant go. i made it 2 years in my honda slammed as low as it goes and having more than a foot of snow, i only got stuck about 4 times and that was my fault trying to get over berms of snow or go into unplowed parking lots

Firestone might still do free lifetime alignments (well, free after a one time fee). I know I have free lifetime alignments at my firestone. It was only like $100 back in 2005.
