Dx to Ex cluster swap

I have seen a couple threads on the dx to ex cluster swap and I am a bit confused. Some people says its 100% plug and play, the tacho will work without additional wiring/splicing. Others say you have to wire/splice into something. So which on is it? I have a hard time believing it will work if I just hook it up, its fine with me if it does, just saying. So if it will not just plug and play, what do I splice into, which wires to be exact? Thanks for your time, I know there are lots of threads about clusters but I didn't find a clear cut answer on my question.

its plug and play.

the only 2 things i recommend is to swap out the speedo so you can keep your miles and also replace the little light bulbs but other then that its plug and play

I have a question about this. So I've seen people mention swapping out the speedometer to keep your original mileage, but I was wondering if instead of swapping the whole cluster and keeping your original speedometer could you do it the other way around and keep the original cluster and just swap the tach? Like instead of adding a whole new tachometer could you just pop out one of the unused circles on the panel and stick an ex tachometer in there or something? Essentially I'm trying to avoid splicing a bunch of wires and screwing something up haha

Also I'm not sure if it makes a difference but I have a 7th gen, not a 6th gen (04)

I'm not 100% sure on the 7th gen, but the 6th gen clusters are 100% plug and play. I've swapped through probably 6 clusters looking for one I like in my 2000 coupe and they all just work. You can see in my build thread I've gone through a few.

In order to keep you original mileage, if you're going from DX to EX, you can pull the clusters apart, as in take the clear fronts off, take the black shroud off, down to the gauges. You can unscrew the speedo from your DX cluster and also unscrew the speedo from the EX cluster, swap them around and put everything back together, put the EX cluster with YOUR old speedo, back in your car. Done.

The much harder way of doing it is pulling the gauge face off (removing the needle, which is tricky, also hard to put back on perfectly) and ticking the mileage around. Also, a lot of people frown on this for legal reasons, but what the f*** ever. I photo document absolutely everything these days so it doesn't bother me one way or the other.

I just swapped out my DX cluster for a cluster with a tach. I'm pretty sure it was from an EX. I got really lucky and the odometers on the 2 were less than 100 kms off so I waited until they were dead on.

My question is with respect to the cables on the cluster.

My DX had 2 blue, 1 yellow and 1 orange clip on it.
The new cluster has the 2 blue and 1 yellow the same, but instead of the orange it has a green plug.

I plugged all but the orange plug in and everything seems to be ok.......

I think the green plug on the EX cluster is for Cruise Control and that the orange plug on the DX cluster was for ABS brakes.

So, it would appear to me that my ABS brakes will not show on the cluster now....

Can anyone confirm this please?

Thanks

The clusters are the same as far as the 2 blue clips go.

The green clip is Cruise Control. The orange clip is ABS. The yellow clip is your SRS.

Cool. That's what I thought.

One other thing. I just drove around with my external GPS to confirm speed. The new speedometer is about 5 km/h slower than the GPS shows.

Is this something that can be adjusted?

Someone probably pulled the needle for the speedo off to adjust the mileage then. I did it on mine and it's really hard to get back to normal. I just drive around knowing it's 5 off
