I have a 01 civic ex with 160k on it. I want to do a major change to it. So me and some friends were sitting back who also own civics and I brought up dropping a k20 in my car. First off its an auto second yes I know I should save up and blah blah blah. Is it possible to put a k20 engine in a auto civic with no problems? Or should I go ahead and buy a 94-99 civic?? Help!!!!!!

Your trans wont work with it so you need a new one anyway. There are cars that come stock with a k and a compatible auto trans so yes auto is doable. Search k swap. Its all been done and discussed.

So because its over 160k the tranny would give? Or it wouldn't be recommended? And I'm also looking at a 01 RSX type r that's an auto with an auto tranny. Would that work in mines? Sorry I'm asking all these question. The local tuner shops say what they want to get money out of you instead of taking time and explaining it.

I'm not an expert on swaps, but i believe in the problem is that they won't match up correctly, not the mileage.

^ Yep, exactly.

D series motors can only work with D series transmissions. So if you get a K series motor, you'll need a K series transmission as well.

So if you find a K series motor with a K series transmission, that will work. I would recommend doing a bit of research on swapping a K motor into a D series chassis.

Your trans is for a d series motor. You need one for a k series motor if you do a k series swap. Also need the ecu and a ton of other stuff. Might want to look into it before diving in. It's not cheap and it isn't just "drop in a k series" easy.

The tuner shops are there to install this stuff NOT to sit there and explain how it is done. They only make money if they are working on something and you sitting there asking them every question in the book is wasting their time. Time is money kiddo. If they sat there and explained to everyone that doesn't research on google, they wouldn't be in business anymore. That's life. We deal with it all the time here. Some customers want all the info but don't plan on spending any money here. I am amazed at how many guys want my techs to come out and talk to them about how this that and the other thing works on their car or how to change/install something and get mad when I tell them no. My guys don't get paid unless wrenches are turning.

I was waiting for someone to say its auto lol yes I know. Everyone says use it as a DD and get a 93 to 99 civic. But the shop me and my dad know the owner but besides that I went in with the intend to have an exhaust put on. But I still have the 5 grand that I was gonna spend with them. Should I go back or buy this RSX type r for 4500 I found? Everything on it is stock expect this stupid ass 22 inch rims on it.

Like I said thanks guys for all the help. Doesn't matter if its not want I wanna hear. Everything helps.

If you've found a legitimately converted "rsx type R" for $4500, i'd buy it, sell the motor and trans for $4000, and sell the rest of the type R parts on it for decent prices and end up with like $8000 dollars in the end.

since I believe it's most like a regualr rsx with type R badges on it since a type R was not automatic, you'd be buying a car with a trans you still can't make use of unless you convert to manual, and if you did go out and find an auto transmission, then you need an auto ecu and a tuning solution along with a a good list of other parts to get it working. good luck

you found a Type R (clone or legit) for $4500 and you are debating on whether or not to buy it? it has 22" rims? i am thinking this is a troll thread.

True. I don't get the whole donk style but whatever. I wouldn't buy a car that was set up as a donk cause that just f**ks it up
