Where do I start? 97 Honda Civic Hatchback Cxi

Hey guys.

Yes I bought a 97 cxi...

The aim here is to have the car looking like a cxi, but be a monster in reality.

Now, I have no idea where to start, this is my first attempt on any kind of build.
The car itself is a stock standard 97 civic cxi, manual transmission. She's done about 230k but I can't fault it.

I have a long term goal, but I need a little help with the introduction.

Thanks

It depends on what the goals are. forced induction?

Waste of money if you are going to put a turbo in.

Well what would you say my options are Instead? I'd rather not do an engine swap or just go get another car to build on, I've decided to do it on this car haha, the whole idea is making something great out of something less then great . Help a brother out here

do you have a budget, power goals? a lot of planning goes into building a car up. if you go in blindly and just start adding bolt ons, you'll probably waste a lot of dough.

I have enough for the parts I listed above, and the labor to get someone to put them in, as well as some interior stuff. I'd need to do a bit of saving a shopping around and get some more options and advice before I jumped into a turbo, I just added that so people didn't think I was forgetting it. Mainly I was wondering if I could start with adding those to the car or wether there is other things that need to be attended to first. I was just going to go for forced induction with a total budget of a about 6k, and an interior budget of about 2k. Plus wheels rims and paint job. .. and body kit... another 4k? I only have 3,000 at the moment, but I'm able to save about a thousand fortnightly.

So based on that budget for those areas, suggestions/ what should I do first ?

You listed a 3" exhaust with a 2.5" cat... that cat is going to restrict the exhaust. Also, 3" piping is pretty big for N/A.

When you turbo your car, you remove the air intake. Purchasing one and then boosting the car in the future would render the intake useless.

Like Bhikku said, you need a budget and a power goal. You've set your budget, so set your power goal next.

It sounds like you need to do a little research =)

(don't do a body kit)

Yeah no body kit is no doubt the best advice given!

Like the guys said, you need to research. I get what you are doing, we have all been there....however, it isn't the best way to do it especially from a financial standpoint. If you are going turbo, pretty much everything you have listed is tossed for turbo compatible parts. Take the money you have towards all those bolt ons and start piecing together your turbo set up if that is where you want to go. Guys have been putting turbos on these for a very long time and documenting the builds on the net. Doing a search on google will net you build sheets and build threads from tons of people that have walked the shoes you are looking to put on and try out.

How exactly does one start building for a turbo? What parts are needed ?

Hmm yeah, it does have some good information about it all doesn't it. But I guess the question is what turbo to go with ? If you buy a turbo kit, is that all you need to get it in? Besides the Labour and the tuning ? Can someone recommend a turbo that works well with my engine ?

Edit: would I better off doing an engine swap before anything else ?http://m.ebay.com/itm/281583687686?nav=SEARCH

Research. Google D-series turbo builds. Read through EVERYTHING you come across. There is a TON of information out there. We are here to help you if you run into snags, NOT to spoon feed you information that is already plentiful. You need to put in the time just like everyone else before you. The internet is a wonderful tool. Use it. Search.

You need to set a goal first. No one can answer what parts you need until you figure out the direction you want to go. Different HP goals require different size turbos, as well as many other factors.

You have a lot of reading ahead of you.
