rear strut suggestions

I'm browsing for new rear struts for my hatch, as shes got some jumpiness and a bit of attic spring noise rounding corners and going over bumps (mainly on the passenger side) and I don't want to go cheap or super expensive for that matter. I'm actually not totally convinced the strut, or struts have gone bad but it has been well over 50 thousand on these.

Anyone have suggestions on the best bang for the bucks?

Is the car lowered? Might be a good opportunity to tackle the front struts while you're at it.

As Pmac eluded, please clarify if your car is lowered or not and what struts & springs are currently on the car. You dont want to have different setups at the front and rear, what with varying drops & weight ratings. Usually its best or at least more cost effective to change all 4 at once. If the rears are in fact worn then the front is likely not far away either. Also, what rims do you have and how lowered is the car? Pictures could help.

not lowered and shes got stock acura rims. I believe they are stock or aftermarket struts made for the 93 civic hatch. I did put tien springs on the struts a few years back also.

I did the "bounce" test and she pretty much settles out after a bounce and a half. I'm beginning to think that the struts are not bad but still, like I was saying, they have been on there for well over 50 grand. All four is deff a good idea.

there is quite a noise that comes from the passenger rear (sounds like an old attic door spring) that occurs when going over bumps in the road, round corners that place weight on that side and when a passenger riding with.

I replaced the upper coil spring isolator (it was actually missing) and that helped a little but the noise is still there. I think the spring is not seated correct or maybe another isolator needs replacing. Ideas? preciate ya'lls input

The car pictured is lowered. If you put lowering springs on stock shocks, then they are more than likely blown. They aren't meant to handle being lowered. If you plan to keep it lowered, then you need to get shocks that are built to handle the spring rate. Eg: Koni. Do a search, this has been discussed to death.

shes not lowered, I pinky promise (don't let the front lip fool you). I have replaced one strut before with a civic replacement part from the auto parts store. this was some time ago however.

also, the tien springs I put on the struts were for the 93 civic hatch.

I find most of the searches on a particular issue, nine times out of ten end with reading a thread revealing no solution.

I'm simply looking for an honest opinion(s) about good shocks for a good price and possibly some insite about the specific noise. thanks

Judging by your wording, it seems you may have a misunderstanding that lowering products are not car-specific. As indicative by your wheel well space, your car is unquestionably lowered. The sound youre hearing could just be the worn strut bottoming out. As for your springs, Tein only offers lowering springs. If they're green then they're S-tech springs that drop roughly 1.8 inches. If they're gold then they're H-tech springs that drop about 1 inch.

As Lethal6 said, factory type struts cannot handle lowering to that is likely your issue. Koni str.t struts all around will be your best bet for value & quality.

Hmmmn, interesting. she's sitting close to 6 inches off the ground and I thought that was the stock ground clearance.

Thanks for the Koni str.t strut suggestion. will deff check those out. Thanks!!

Check out the spring color and let us know. They're probably s-tech springs. Its also likely sitting lower if all the struts are worn and the Tein springs are holding up more weight than they should. Have you bounce-tested the front end?

the springs are green.

so what I'm gathering here is that I probably have stock replacement struts with tein springs (which is why it is lowered) and the stock struts cannot handle that lowering which explains the thuds i hear when i hit certain size bumps in the road.

both front and rear pass the bounce test. settle after about 1 and a half bounces.

daaaaaang. a few years back, a "pal" of mine convinced me to give him my adjustable coil overs because i was not interested in adjusting them. I just wanted that height and a solid ride.

live and learn.....

will the Koni str.t strut work with the tein springs?

Unless those were high quality brand name coilovers, you're not missing out on anything good. Teins are great springs. I have them with the Koni str.t struts, as many members do, and its a great ride feel.
