Help with wheels!

So my 98 civic is in profile, love the way it sits ,but it rubs the ground. Frame and exhaust I don't wanna tear it up. This is my first civic it has been lowered 3", skunk2 springs I believe. Was suggested maybe going to 17x7 rims, told may rub? Im a big rim guy so going up not a problem for me but dont want to swap one problem for another. Currently there are 165/45/15's on it now! Any help is appreciated. Also suggested different springs but which will cost least? And would bigger tires on those rims get scr8pin to stop? Thanks

17's are just plain big for the 6th gen chassis. If you are already lowered, (3" at that!), then yes, if you magically shove 17's in those fender wells, they will scrape. The only way past it is if you do some massive pulling of your fenders and maybe even messing with your shock towers.

Fenders are you referring to rolling? And doing what to shock towers?
Yes. You are going to have to remove the plastic fender liners (if they are not removed already), and roll the lip of the fenders to give more clearance. As for the shock towers, it is possible to extend them, making the position of the suspension sit higher, meaning a lower ride height if done correctly. A lot of stance guys do this to fit wider wheels because when the suspension sits higher it also allows for more camber.

EDIT: http://www.clubcivic.com/forum/threads/please-read-frequently-asked-questions-faqs.201511/

I'm sure there are also loads of threads/posts done on numerous forums that can give a better explanation than I can online. Try googling "17 inch wheels civic" or something like that

17" rims on a 6th gen. Civic will rub alot on anything more than a 1.5-inch drop. Stick to the 15"s. Post a pic of your car from a side profile. Judging by your profile pic, it doesnt look like a 3 inch drop. Also, you mentioned having Skunk2 springs, but what brand are you struts? If theyre OEM rated struts then thats your problem. Switch to some quality struts and you'll find your resolution.

Ok, maybe you are at a 3" drop. Can you confirm what brand of struts you have?

If it scrapes bc its bouncy you should probably get new struts or coil overs. If your struts are good and its scraping just on bumps and things... Slow down and drive it like its lowered lol

Keep 15s but change the tire size a little. If you just need a little space. Try a 50 series if it'll work and of course just drive a little slower lol it is lowered I learned that the hard way.

That is lower than any lowering spring. There is something else going on there. Either modified towers, perches, cut springs, etc. Doesn't add up. Unless they are fully adjustable coilovers and not just "lowering springs". NEVER trust a sale ad. Find out for your self.

If he is rubbing and scrapping upping the tire profile isn't going to help especially not from a 45 series to a 50 series.

We don't know how bad the scrapping is and it will help if there is enough room to allow for a tire size change if not then it is probably something else. No harm in exhausting all options

You need to visually inspect those struts to at least narrow down what set-up you have. Dont take the sellers word for much. You never know. Have you tried the bounce test?

Those are adjustable coilovers. Crank them up for more clearance, get an alignment, drive the car. /thread.

I would stick with 15' I have 205/50/15 in the front and 205/55/15 in the back I'm running tein street basis lowered all the way to the bottom no rubbing or scrapping I have a pair of 17 inch rims but not worth putting them on until I do a engine swap to a k20 u could probably go to 16 inch
