Hey guys,can someone help me out with this crazy thing..I have an Civic 1.6 Lx 98 MANUAL that i just bought and the engine blown,this mechanic is telling me that i can put an automatic engine and nothing bad will happen and then i got this other mechanic telling me that i cant do that because the engine is automatic..Can someone please tell me which is true?

You aren't making any sense. The engines aren't manual or automatic, the transmissions are.

Should be able to put a new/used engine in it. You'll want to make sure it's EXACTLY the same before putting it in.

The mechanic was hit in the head too many times with the stupid stick. You can put an engine from an automatic car in there. It's probably the better choice anyways, considering manual civics are typically abused more than autos by teenagers.

Don't take your car to that mechanic. The engine is not "automatic".


You can put an engine from an automatic car in there. It's probably the better choice anyways, considering manual civics are typically abused more than autos by teenagers.
This is the better choice for this reason.

Same thing i was thinking but i wanted it to make sure since one is telling me the opposite from the other..

Sometimes wiring harness can be different, automatics could have more vaccume hoses on te engine that would need to be plugged, sometimes the flywheel/bell housing area can be different and the engines quite often have different mounts and stiffeners. If the mechanic was not familiar with that gen of civic he could have thought that would be the easiest way to say no. Its easy to go over a quote and have a mad customer with something like that. Also could have been a slight misunderstanding. But yes, the engine should have no problem working on your car as long as it is the same engine.
