If im posting in the wrong thread, i do apologize. I tried researching before coming here but i have no clue what to search, as im unsure of what piece to search. I have a 97 Civic with a D16Z6 swap. I have a general understanding of these engines, but i have a piece dangling freely in my bay. My question is can anyone tell me what component that is? Its circled in red on the attached photo. Thanks in advanve. IMAG0122_1.jpg

Yes, you posted in the correct section. Its the cruise control actuator. What Civic it belonged to is another story.

By the way, for future trouble shooting scenarios, heres a reference list of what cars have that engine. As per wikipedia, via a google search...
D16Z6
Found in
1992–1995 Honda Civic Si
1992–1995 Honda Civic EX, EX-V
1992–1995 Honda Civic ESi (European Market)
1993–1995 Honda Del Sol Si (US)
1993–1996 Honda Del Sol ESi (European)

With that info, pull up a parts list from an online Honda parts dealer, such as HondaPartsUnlimited.com or MajesticHonda.com, then start hunting through the diagrams.

Define "dangling freely." Is it not hooked up or not mounted properly? Was that part original to the car?

Most likely the cruise control was never hooked back up after someone did the swap. You should be able to hook it back up, assuming everything you need is there. If you don't want cruise control, you can remove it.

thats common with swaps done most don't really care to much about the cruise control or even uses it for that matter

Myself included. But, I at least removed the cruise control unit after I disconnected it, lol.
