Factory Steering Wheel 97EX

This is not a huge concern of mine, as I have more important issues with the car I'm dealing with, but I'm curious if anyone here has tried to refurbish a factory steering wheel?
I do not like aftermarket steering wheels because it doesn't suit my interior. I prefer a clean, factory steering wheel. I don't have a racecar, so I'm not interested in those aftermarket options.
I have that typical nasty dry rot at the 12 o'clock and its just an eyesore. I understand wraps and covers are options, but they're bulky and just don't look aesthetically pleasing. SI steering wheels have a nice tight leather wrap, and I wouldn't mind that, but my interior is gray.
Used ebay replacements are not only expensive, but most have the same dry rot. Just curious if anyone has tried some sort of refurbish process for their car.

You can have it reupholstered at an auto upholstery shop. Id suggest marine grade vinyl for maximum durability. FYI, classy grey is the name of the dark gray tone in 6th gen.s ans SEM sells leather/vinyl spray dye in that color to ensure any option you choose is color matched.
