Any info on a source to replace anti-theft door lock knobs with conventional type on "97 Civic EX? Old hands have lost gripping power.

I assume you refer to a Civic sedan as the coupes & hatches dont have any door lock knobs. Outside of that, I dont understand your question. Why you used the term "anti-theft" while referring to the knobs is beyond me. Are you asking where you can get aftermarket knobs? Visit any local autoparts store.

Yep, 4 door sedan. '97 rear doors have knobs that are tapering cylinders that have to be squeezed to grip (no kind of protrusion to grip). Have tried a number of aftermarket units but either the interior threads are of too large a diameter to mate with the Civic's threaded shaft or they aren't long enough to reach the shaft. Still looking for a solution that will work with old, arthritic hands.

Ah. I get you now. I dont recall the inner structure of the rear knobs, but if they leave a decent length of a protruding portion sticking out when in the lock position then I would consider using a heat gun to bend it inward enough to provide added pulling leverage so it requires less friction force.
