Unexpected Fuel Economy

Hey guys!

My 99 6th gen HB just (out of nowhere) started running a lot nicer than usual.
I am running a JDM B20b with a JDM GSR transmission, Skunk 2 Intake, and a full DC twin loop exhaust. Out of nowhere my fuel economy increased by about 7mpg (23 to 30). I haven't been driving her any different than usual. Still pull on the highway, still dig from time to time.

Should I be worried about anything?
The only recent work I have done to her is change the wheel bearings.

Thanks!

Maybe your getting summer blend fuel already?I don't see that big of a change but when we switch from summer to winter fuel my car goes from 32 down to 28mpg

Possible I suppose, but in Ohio right now it's 20F. At least where I'm at. Thanks for the reply!

Its possible you had a blockage somewhere in your fuel delivery that came loose. I suggest you perform a strong fuel system clean just to prevent any other potential looming blockage. SeaFoam Top Engine cleaner is very effective. If not, use a premium quality fuel additive like Techron at double the suggested concentration, or do both so you help clean out the fuel lines. Consider changing your fuel filter as well if its been a while.

Your gas mileage increased and you think there's a problem? I would be worried if it were the other way around. Also I suppose wheel bearings can affect gas mileage. Bad bearings = more friction, but I wouldn't imagine your gas mileage being that poor with them. Keep an eye on it, and if your gas mileage goes down, then worry. But for now if it stays where it is.. that's a good thing!

This was my guess. I have the new filter purchased and planned on putting it on this weekend (finally nice enough to do so). I ran some fuel system cleaner at the end of last year, when I first got her. Thanks for your suggestion!

I mean, of course I'm worried! Haha I understand what you're trying to say but, it literally just came out of nowhere so I was a little skeptical.

I did, however, forget to mention that this didn't start happening until after a really long trip where I was close to top speed multiple times on the highway (yeah yeah yeah, dangerous and illegal but when a DSM wants to race what are you gonna do? haha)

Ah. The combination of a recent system cleaning additive and a long vigorous drive likely freed up some blockage. Id still suggest a cleaning with the SeaFoam Top Engine cleaner just to be safe. What cleaner did you use?

You know, I honestly can't remember. It might have been Techron, actually. Whatever it was, a Jegs associate recommended it to me.
