Hi there. Iv got a 98 ek9 with the b16b. Just wondering if i up scale my throttle body and intake manifold will i need to tune it or get an ecu upgrade? Also what are the recommended TB intake combos/ size / brand for the best gains. Any help will be much appreciated .
Cheers

Wow she looks very clean! A larger throttle body wont make any more power unless your plans are with a forced induction set up, and this has been proven. My opinion is the same with the manifold-the Type R manifold is one of the top options to have on a B16B. After market intake manifolds will change your torque curve but the end result will be about the same amount of power after spending extra cash.
If you still go for them, the answer to your question is no you dont have to remap the ecu after the install. Yes if you had a programmable ecu, you could take advantage of the intake change. People do all intake and exhaust work without a tune and do ok. But more power can always be found with bolt on parts with a good custom tune. So the investment of a good system like Hondata is worth while if your gona be playing with the car for a while.
Programmable ecu's are one of the best investments if you have a good tuners at your disposal. Be aware, a bad tuner can do more harm than good.
I think with a good intake tube, headers, and exhausts a good start. If you want to go deeper in the pocket and faster on the strip, you could then get a tune-able ecu with camshafts and head work. Most of the power will come from the top end (the head).
Wow, sorry so much info- Your EK9 looks so clean I went off on power up grade tangents haha. Good luck and enjoy the iconic Type R Civic. Best of luck
