AC vent issue

Finally found a forum where I can post a new thread. I know very little about cars. the issue I am having is the heat/ac is only blowing threw the front vents and I think the defroster isn't working it does light up when I push the button, but I'm pretty sure its not working. I have heard a couple of things a blend door actuator or a mode control motor. I never heard of a blend door actuator let alone what it looks like or where its located. I'm not going to throw parts at it. can someone help on where to start and troubleshoot. it was working yesterday just fine now its not. I have tried googling the blend door actuator and I cant find it for my car anywhere. it may be called something else I don't know. i want to troubleshoot before i start buying parts. hopefully something came loose. when i called the Honda dealer for the price on the mode controller motor its almost 200 bucks. i don't wanna spend that if possible.

Confirm your year please. My answer definitely applied to 96-98 models but it may vary on 99-00 models.

Stick your head under the driver side dash and look for this towards the center console...

Reach over and change the vent settings. If it moves but nothing changes then the clip on the arm broke. If it doesnt move the you need a new motor. You can find it on eBay or a junkyard for around $20-$30.

I will do that. I was getting something off the floor and noticed that box on the passenger side up under the glove box. I noticed it because of the green connector. I was thinking I wonder what this is. I never looked under the driver side but I will now. If it is the motor is it a pain to replace. I tried browsing for the motor and couldn't find anything. It's like it doesn't exist. What does the motor look like.

As I already said and showed, it will look similar to the motor box on the passenger side. Its held on by just 2 screws. You still haven't confirmed what year is your car, so re-read my comment.

FYI, I edited your comments because you replied within my quoted comment. Be aware that there is an edit option in your comments.

I have a 99 Honda Civic Lx. I will definitely look under the drivers side and look for that box my check engine light came on would this issue cause this. I'm going to autozone tomorrow and going to get the ODB code. I hope it's just something that came loose or something but with my luck probably not. I've had rarely any issues with this car but the issues I've had where expensive to fix. For once I want a simple fix. I don't have access to my labtop so I'm replying from my phone I don't see an edit option at least on my phone.

Dude, reply outside of the quote. I once again edited your reply. Just take 5 seconds to look and you'd realize both. The edit is available when you click on the 3 lines next to the reply button.

No, this would not cause a check-engine light.

ok hex sorry about having you editing my posts. I am no replying on my laptop. Anyway I am going to look up under the driver side area and see if I can locate that black box. my check engine light error is for a bad o2 sensor. I just wanna get that air flow fixed. its not bothering to bad but I would like the defroster to work. I looked online to see whats available for the mode controller assembly and I cant find a damn thing outside of the dealer. The harness that's plugged into the mode assembly where does it go, just curious

I just found atleast 8 used blend door motors on eBay using that phrase, which you used earlier. I dont understand your last question about whatever you refer to as the "mode assembly". Using proper punctuations would help.

as I stated in my first post I don't know a whole lot about cars. I didn't know what it was called and mode assembly was the term given to me when I asked autozone. Actually autozone called it a mode controller motor and said its the motor in the blend door actuator. I never heard of a blend door actuator and that's why I am on here.
