1986 Wagovan 4WD restore proj start
http://www.jdmcity.com/showthread.php?t=11000
Will post updates here as well. Intended restore: Fully stock, except for minor lift and stiffness all around, white paint instead of blue, redo interior to blue and burgundy, and modify vacuum system to simplify the extremely complex 3rd gen usage, and 15" wheels.
This is my 3rd Wagovan project. First was 1987 gold wagovan, like the one on this thread. Bought FWD Wagovan, and 1985 4WD doner car, and converted 1987 to 4WD. Lifted back end, added custom KC daylighter rack on top, lights on front bumper, built brush guards, etc. Made it into a Baja style car.
Second project was silver 1986 Wagovan 4WD. Bought from RPR's sidliner in 2006, restored to stock except for same mods above, but kept silver color and stock interior. A deer ran out in front of me on May 23, 2009 and it was totaled.
This project is 1986 Wagovan 4WD. It's blue with blue and light blue interior. 163K miles. When I got it clutch was out, installing new one today actually. Needs body work, engine work, but is generally solid.
I'm had planned on going with white before I saw this thread, but now I am definitely going with white. Do not believe in dropped style, so will be raising slightly with additional stiffness. Not alot, just enough to overcome the aging sag present on 3rd gen Wagovans, and to allow for some 15" rims with mild off-road tread with raised white lettering.
Going old-school with 3-spoke American Racers, that I bought originally for the 1987 and that Baja appearance. When finished, will probably install sun-roof as well, along with luggage rack. Will paint pretty much identically to the car in this thread, but without red stripe.
Looking forward to a summer's project!
