I have a weird prob. it's raining and my wife just drove 2 blocks and my 2000 civic si died on her she tried to start it again and it won't. I've gone to troubleshoot; the starter spins but the solinoid won't actuate so the motor does not turn, I have power to all accesories, no idiot lights came on before hand (according to her) engine light is still not on so I belive her. what could it be

im begging to get that problem.. i checked my distributor, and it wwouldnt make the sparks correctly... mine starts, after a while... but other than that.. it cranks and trow out the unburnt fuel...

pull the spark plug out of the distributor and have ur chic crank it, see if it makes the arc the way its supposed to, with no missing sparks... mine wouldnt trow all the sparks....

I haven't checked the distributer yet because I'm still trying to figure out why the engine won't crank and how the problems might be related

alright I've got spark, the engine now cranks (however now it cranks rather fast), the fuel pump is working, I've also checked the fuel pump relay and that works, so I assume that I have fuel. I've adjusted the valves and everything seems to spin freely, but the car still won't start any help would be greatly appreciated.

check the grounds and battery connections for corrosion. alot of times a bad ground will cause even more problems in the rain. its happened to me before and my alarm siren wouldn't work at all in the rain and then was fine in the sun.

i checked the grounds they seem to be fine and the battery is new and there is no corrosion on either of the terminals, I checked the battery voltage and it was 12.5 V

wait wait wait, is the motor cranking?? or just nothing, if you have nothing that coil s**t can be tossed out the window for now, and try and crack the starter a few times w/ a hammer to see if something is stuck, then if that doesn't do it push start it, get going about 5mph and put in 2nd and drop the clutch ;)

did you check the plug wires? check the battery just for fun. even if it can power accessories, it may not have enough to start the car. but this seems like a bigger problem than starting, because you say it dies while driving. could also be a starter issue.

si dead

k motor cranks, checked battery its good (new), checked starter its good, i smell gas so i have fuel, I checked spark but its possible that it's not strong enough but i dont know why it would drive for 3 blocks then die though and the all the spark plugs are around 8K ohms, it doesn't even try to turn over just spins like a possible timing problem but I don't think thats possible I haven't messed with the timing at all the timing belt is still good and tight. the only thing I've done is adjust the valves because they were clicking and I adjusted them so they were .006" intake and .007" exhaust. How would I check the ignition coil or is it just something you replace and hope for the best.

combustion makes your car go. you need three things for combustion. air, fuel and spark.

If you have all three, you car will start.

Air - not that, unless your in cali where air isnt air, its waste.

Fuel - doubtful, if you havent changed anything (fuel wise) from the car running well to it not running well, then I doubt its that, unless you injectors went bad, plus you'd probably be throwing a CEL.

Ignition / Spark - have you actually seen them spark?

that does sound like the ignition coil to me..

yup, my uncle burned his engintion coil too, he checked the compression, and something bad happened, then it would turn on, same problem as yours... most likely its the ignition coil.. or the other parts in the distributor...

alright I've got fuel (saw it coming out of the injectors), I've got spark (saw good spark from plugs), I assume I have air, I can feel a little bit of a loap when cranking so I assume I have compression, so how would the timing go out.

the car won't go so don't know if it makes funny sounds, but yesterday it didn' t so ehhhh. but I did find that I have no compression, I've heard that a warped block would cause no compression problems but the car hasn't overheated at all and two days ago it ran great so I am compleatly lost on this one.

i dont know the older civics very well but i've heard when the battery is disconnected and the ecu resets, there is no way to automatically adjust the ignition timing like there is on the newer vics. so it may be the ignition timing was thrown off and never corrected. just a guess.

but what would cause me to have like 5 lbs/in^2 compression, even if the timing was off I should have helluva lot higher compression than that. norm is 185 or something i think
