No, you're wrong. Do a little research and you'll find that VTEC-E has an engagement anywhere from 2700 to 3000 RPM's.IWhat makes you think you're right, your buddy telling you what he thinks he knows?

I have a d16y5 head in my car right now. When I originally bought it, I was told that it had a d16y8 motor in it. It has a y8 block and transmission (ex) with a y5 head (hx) and was running a p2p ecu (ex) with it. When I would be cruising along arond 3000 rpm's, it seemed to have a tough time at accelerating even a little bit with out having to mash the accelerator to the floor. I did some investigating and realized that the car had the wrong ecu in it. I bought a p2n (hx) ecu and hooked it up and wow what a difference. Any hesitation it had was gone.

The primary reason for the hesitation with the p2p (ex) ecu was that the y5 head was still working on one intake valve at 2800 rpm's and wanted to have vtec engage to run both intake valves, while the p2p ecu wasn't even close to engaging vtec yet. Vtec doesn't hit hard in a y5, so if your basing the 4500 rpm therory from your buddies car on feeling or hearing it, its in your head.

Do a little research before you start spouting off and posting what you think is gospel. Go on H-T and search for d16y5 and you'll become enlightened.
:word: true story. i miss my y5:(

Depends on wat ur willin to spend.... If your budget is low and MUST include a tranny swap, I'd say get intake/headers/exhaust and some Tokico shocks. I'd say do that man cause if ur budget it low now, you definitely wont wanna pay all those gas prices if you put a turbo on it (ur mgp will go wayyyy down). And ur exhaust doesn't have to be loud, some even come with a silencer
.

Okay, so now I'm thinking that I want to do what you said.
I'm thinking it would be good to keep my mileage and keep my 30,000 y5 engine.
Also, I would get a world sport 2 exhaust when I get one.
So my question is, what kind of gains could I be looking at and what type of pricing would be involved?

Thank you for info.

you could add a bunch of stickers to make it faster  just kidd'n anyway like everyone has already said, turbo it. i had a auto ex with a greddy kit on it and it was fun to drive, or save up for a bit and do a swap. i put a b18c in it and love it. a b18c swap is more than 2,000 so as said before you could also do a LS swap..................i just saw your last post and you siad you only have 30,000 miles on it? never mind a swap turbo that b***h!!!!!!!

Well I'm thinking maybe just keep my engine in great condition like it is.

Don't really want to risk it I guess. Depending on how much gain I can get from those 3 or 4 things listed above I think I will go this route.

Yeah. I'm deciding to think realistically and I should save my money and keep good gas mileage. So I want to increase my power by just a bit more or whatever.I just need some info!

Somebody let me know if you know please!

Thanks :D

edit:

i was told 20-30 hp gain. which if I got up to 145 hp I would be just fineeeeeee!!
and then my friend also keeps telling me it will be "a few thousand" to switch my tranny..

wtf, im thinking like 500..

dude just work on suspension instead of going fast. going fast isn't worth it because gas price are high. Go fast mean more money to spend,I rather spend some on tacos hehehe

I will be getting a ctr grille (oem si grille, $112), new shocks, and a manual tranny within this month.

As for anything else, who knows now...
