im not sure about stock...but go with the 165 amp....bc its only like 20-30 bucks more for those extra amps....but then for the 170 its like a 100 more...not worth it...just go with the 165 :rocker:

actually you are both right on the cap thing. It all depends on the current draw of your system which way you are going to go. If the amperage draw has not exceeded the alternators limits then a cap will help. In which this case it will. The 5100t only draws a maximum of 40 amps so a cap will help.
And I would recommend a cap before an extra battery. Droppping in an extra battery will in most cases cause more harm if not ran with a dual battery isolator.

In your case I do beleive your problem is going to be found in your wiring. I would run a 4 gauge with that amp and ground it no more than 6 inches away from where you mounted it. The 5100t is rather a power hungry little amp.

In the alternator world go to www.4alterstart.com Getting an alternator off of ebay is rather lame. We got ours from alterstart and it works great.

But in the long run the alternator change is the best sollution to any current issue. The cap helps maintain a solid voltage input and filters out any power side noise introduction.

ook well my car's battery keeps dieing cause of my system....i have a legacy la2070(dont ask lol it was when i was a noob) but it puts out around 600-800 rms...and my battery keeps dieing so should i put my 1.2 cap back in?
