89 dx alternator question

Hello everybody,
I have a question in regards to amp output on a 89 alternator. The original went out and I replaced it with one from Autozone. Everything seemed fine till I got caught in the rain and had the lights A/C radio and defroster running. It started to run hot, like the gauge pegged. So I checked everything pertaining to the cooling system and couldn't find anything wrong . The next day I drive and its dry and no overheating. Over the next couple of weeks no rain cool temos. Now with daylight savings, coming home with the lights radio A/C or heater it overheats. Seems like the alternator ( which is 60 amps I checked) is not enough to power everything and maybe the cooling fans are running slow. My question is, is that possible? I looked online and have found 60,75 and 130 amp for 89 civic 1.5 or 1.6 Anybody know what the original one was rated at? Thanks for any input:cool:

I'm not familiar with Hondas really but if you are thinking it could be alternator related maybe you aren't really running hot and the gauge is just pegging?

thanks for the reply. I have a infared temp reader, but the problem is when I get home its showing cool so I does no good to shoot a temp off the engine. My next thing was to try to get a reading when driving and it happens pull over immediately and check the actual temp, but even if its running hot it could be the alternator not putting out enough. If I drive it during the day with just the radio or A/C it doesn't overheat I know it sounds crazy but it didn't overheat before the changeout

What I was getting at is maybe if the alternator isn't the right size or what have you then that is why the guge is acting up, but like I said I'm no Honda tech man it does seem like if the thing was getting as hot as the gauge says it's getting 1 there would be steam and lots of it and 2 I don't think it would happen to many times if you know what I mean. So you from Louisiana?
