I've heard of b18's reaching 9,000 rpms. If I balance the crank, do I have to balance the camshafts or can I balance them? I also have JE 10.5:1 pistons and Eagle rods to go with it. Well they be able to handle the stress? thanks
werd!!!Handlebars said:making power with more boost is safer than with more rpm. boost puts more compression force on the rod, which is what its meant to take. rpm puts tension on the rod bolts, which are far weaker.
there is no reason on reving so high if the motor is not going to make anymore power at high rpms. Only a proper tune of the car will you know whats the highest you can rev without loosing power.jason_guy_yeah said:hmmm....didn't know that. So, with the current set up(not balancing the crank then). What rpm's can I reach?
dude, you can rev to 9k all day long... its pointless unless you built it to make power up that high anyways.jason_guy_yeah said:so, would anybody know if I can reach 9000 rpms?
rotational mass?? and lightening the valvetrain, you mean lightening the cams?sohclubkid said:dude, you can rev to 9k all day long... its pointless unless you built it to make power up that high anyways.
you will need to balance the entire bottom end, lighten the rotational mass, and lighten the valvetrain as well. you will need a big cam, and a really good tune. hope that answers your
You are correct on balancing the bottom end and lighten the rotationsl mass (ie. flywheel, crank pulley) but this is not a must. And i think you ment to say strengthn the valvetrain and some higher lift cams. And do make sure you get a great tune. And what is the comprassion ratio you are heading for?sohclubkid said:dude, you can rev to 9k all day long... its pointless unless you built it to make power up that high anyways.

rotational mass... like lightweight flywheel and such. and cams are fine like they are, they will snap usually if you lighten them, so i dont reccomend that. titanium valves (or sodium filled i believe), retainers, and upgraded valvesprings. those are things to look into.jason_guy_yeah said:rotational mass?? and lightening the valvetrain, you mean lightening the cams?
what the hell for?jason_guy_yeah said:so, would anybody know if I can reach 9000 rpms?
save yourself the trouble and just smash a hole in the block with a sledgehammer, because chances are revving that high on a stock motor is going to put a hole in the block anywaysjason_guy_yeah said:because I can. So, what do I need to do to make this happen?
