New member here. Old Honda Civic problem. Hopefully someone can help. Was driving the car last week and stopped a couple times to run errands and went to leave at w store and no start up. I turn the key, I hear the fuel pump prime up and the relay kick in and turn the key one more turn and nothing. No turnover no sound no click of the starter. I take the starter out, its OK. The battery is OK. The car is a 5 speed. It will start and run great if I pop the clutch and jump start it. But I'm lost now. I really like my Civic. Hardly drive my Tundra cause my civic so fun and great on gas. Its a 91 hatchback. 1.5 .... Can anyone give me a direction to get started. Thanks a bunch. Joey

Are you getting power to the starter when you try to turn it over?

Hi. Thanks for a reply. When I turn the key there is nothing. But I can touch both terminals with a screw driver and there's definitely power.

Then there is something wrong with the wire from your ignition switch to the starter.

Or.....

Did the older civics have the clutch safety bypass?

It's one of those two things

Yes sir it does have the safety pin. I found that and it pushes in and pops back out as if it is spring loaded. Seems OK I guess. Didn't know about a rubber stopper. That will be next to try in the morning. Thank you guys. I'll be back to give a update.

Hey RonJ. That was it...... I felt the pin with the spring and can feel where some piece once feeled the hole at the top of the clutch pedal. 2 questions now? What's the best way to replace or fix the safety switch issue. And as I pushed the pin in and turn the key the car now turns over fine but didn't start up and run. Should it have?

One other question? If I break my back and push the safety switch pin in and turn the key, should the car start? Because I have done that and the car will now turnover but not fire up. Just wondering? Thanks

It should just start, some people weld a penny over the hole (I say weld, but any way to secure the penny over the hole).

Sounds like you have an additional problem if the engine cranks but won't start with the switch button pressed.

Fix the rubber stopper issue and then go from there.

Yes sir, RonJ. I'm afraid they may be another issue. But I guess one setback at a time here. I'll be back here no doubt......

Ok guys. Car fired up and runs great. I really appreciate the input. My next project will be the A/C. It works but the bearings or something around the ac motor sounds like a bunch of bb's rolling around in a glass jar. The ac is cool but not cold. Any thoughts? Thank you again.

Wow, no reply for 2 days now. I guess AC work is a cosmetic issue not a engine issue. Onward I go then. Thanks anyway.

Me thinks you are whining now like a child who wants candy. Do you understand how that's perceived?

And the problem is YOU. Nobody can decipher your description of the problem. For example, your car doesn't have an A/C motor, so what are you talking about? And I can't stress enough the power of well written text in conjunction with clear pictures or videos to communicate tech problems and to get answers. It's time to up your game.

Now..... That's what I'm talking about. A reply...... Figured that get the blood a boiling. I know y'all already. Anyway let me start, the compressor (RonJ) when activated has sound as if the bearing are about to jump out. When i deactivate the compressor and the sound shuts off. Thus no air. Is it best to just replace the compressor or try to rebuild it? Remember im a 1st grader in a civic highschool.
