Why not add an extra 100+ hp just to start with?

It combines the Rx7's excellent handling with V8 power and torque. What is wrong with that aside from your obvious bias against US cars?

i have nothing against US built vehicles.

i am a firm believer the 20b is a greater engine than an ls1 and was purpose built for the mazda chassis.

with the right mods the rotary is untouchable for the power to liters ratio...

pretty impressive imo..

as always u are entitled to ur own opinion, but personally i would never, and do not agree with a v8 swap in a rx7 or cosmo.

20b engine better than the LS1? That is very debatable considering how different they are.

With the right mods the LS1 will produce alot more power than a modded 20b will ever produce. The LS1 only weighs about +20 lbs more than the rotary and creates a lower center of gravity in the RX7.

But like you said. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion.

What is a cosmo?

Never in a million years would I ever consider an LS1 swap into anything but a Camaro. Yes, an LS1 may put down better numbers than a rotary..... but rotary engines are just so freakin cool. It would be absolute blasphemy to put a V8 into a car as cool as a 3rd gen RX7. Dont get me wrong, I WISH I had an LS1 Camaro.....but never would I consider disgracing a 3rd gen RX7 with one.

^ To each their own I guess. Personally I have been waiting to build a FD RX7 with a LS1 swap. Cannot think of a faster car for the dollar. Porsche style handling with American power is the perfect Alchemy!

What is a cosmo?
Cosmos came with a 20B in 1992-1995, twin turbo, 2 litre rotary engine, 300 hp, and 300 lb-ft of torque. Torque was available at ~2300 rpm unlike a 13B motor which needs to rev high to make power. I'd take a 20B twin turbo over an LS1 any day.

That car saounds sweet. I cannot believe that I have not heard of it. Is that a US car?

That does sound pretty cool. I am just saying that any LS series is a good starting point for a seriously fast car. The rotary with almsot the same weight, costs more and makes less HP with Twin Turbos. The bone stock LS1 is faster. If you add a Turbo or 2 it's just silly fast. The rotary engine is a very cool design. But the RX7's strong point is definately it's handling, not it's power.
