Heres a stupid question for u guys which let me start off i kno its stupid dont need to flame or rub it in. If you are willing to give me a serious helpfull answer then post if not dont even post at all

This weekend I put in my cold cathodes pics not up yet but theirs pics of the cathodes and wires at the link i got it from:
http://www.oznium.com/cathode-kit?si...eec44e8b3111a6
They came with a switch so i can turn them off/on whenever i want

When i put them on i wrapped the wire around the cigrette lighter fuse

Now i have a question I used to build computers I have this laying around:

I dont want to try cutting the wires b4 im sure i kno how to add the led's in the pic above to the cathodes

I mean yes its extra but i really dont want to split the wires on the ANTEC USB LED lights if im not sure how it will wire up to the switch and stuff i have the cathodes hooked up to

DOES any1 kno if its possible for me to add these LED's to the circut i have the cathodes on? How hard is it? Im a noobie in wiring so in your explanations dont judge/think i kno what im doing.
Also how to wire it from after I cut the USB wire?
if you ever have cut a normal USB wire and saw whats inside thats what im wondering how to hook up to my car

Im not a ricer i just want to see if this is possible. This thread is not a garantee that i will do this to my ride.

Now heres CELL phone pics of the usb wire cut:

notice their is 1 white wire and 1 red wire

edit-to summarize after i rethought about this after i posted. I want these to be hooked up to the same switch I have my cold cathodes hooked up to so when i turn them on both the cathodes and the led lights turn on.

yea it should work since comps use 12v, i put a computer flourecent neon tube in my dash to light up my diy glow needles. i just soldered it to the dim switch (red wit red and black wit black), that way i can dim it and make it brighter when ever i want.
btw the little tube (6") is actually brighter then my streetglow (10 or 12" i dont remember) under the dash and theyre like 3x less thicker then the streetglows , when i get some time and extra cash ima buy a pack of computer tubes (2-12in tube for $15) which is cheaper then one streetglow tube and ima rewire tru out the inside of car.

So what should I do attach the White wire to a ground and add the red wire to the wire connecting the switch to the Cigrette lighter fuse?

ive never done it tru the fuse, but that pretty much whatcha do, what i did was get a cellphone charge and mickey mouse it from there, i pull the wires tru the side and into the back of the console, its a ghetto switch. the reason i did that was that is becuase its very close reach to my hand on shifter, so when cops pass my i can pull it out when making any body movements.

im not tryin to advertise for anyone but for my old car i got the cathodes 2 x 12 inch tubes for like 7 bux, from oznium.com. they also have LEDs for cheap as anything, i vouch for that site.. phil is a great guy

Dude i did get the cathodes from oznioum.com look at the link i provided in the first post.

I just had these laying around didnt give a f**k about them nor no one wanted to buy them so i put them on my car

anyways nevermind I did it myself. I put the white wire on the wire that connected to the ground for the cathodes and tightened the wires up with a wire nut. And did the same connecting the red wire to the other red wire connecting the switch which is getting power from the cigrette lighter fuse.

Weird they get very very hot maybe i need to switch the wires? Connect the red to the ground and white to were it gets power...It probually will work either way. But dunno

Anyways i got what i wanted 1 switch controls all the lights

HELP me asap
on the way to work they worked fine and but when i parked and was about to leave the car i smelled smoke it came from the switch on the set of LED wires that i comes with (this switch u can turn it on/of, set it to be on all the time, or to beat to the rhthme of the music) i turned off that switch anyways now the cathodes work but the led's dont work

HELP ME..what did i do wrong and how can i fix it? connect them to a 35 fuse instead of a 15 fuse which is the cigrette lighter if so which fuse? and what is it called?

pics:

I attached the white wire to the black (ground) on this transformer and the red to the red.

and heres the whole system the cathodes come in :

i unno i dont know anything about fuses, sorry man. that why i avoided them and use the cell phone charger instead. did u use the same tranformer for both kits? maybe u over powerd it. i really dont know maybe someone esle is wiser then me.

i split the black and red wires going into the transformer and added those so that all the lights are controlled by 1 switch

did u check to see if the led's grounded out..... and for the leds... did u put a resistor on it?

i hooked the ground on the led's (white wire) to the black ground wire used in the cathodes...no i didnt use a resistor
Dude if u have a spare resistor are u willing to sell it. Im bussy with college, work i barely have time to go buy s**t. Hell i was lucky today to have 30 minutes to fool around with the lights

im getting confused.

now will if i try to get the power to light these led's work if i get the power from a 35 fuse? cuz it looks like it was over powered by the 15 fuse

the cathodes are going to want 12v. they should have come with some kind of amp spec.

USB Supplied voltage by a host or a powered hub ports is between 4.75 V and 5.25 V.

so for the LED your going to need to reduse the voltage with resistors.
makku said:
oh crap, I had no idea that the LEDs were the package in the picture which connected to USB.

^^^that guy is right... but sometimes the power is 3.3V, not 5V. In any case, you have too much power going to the LEDs. Use some resistors in-line to reduce the current.
Ill need to get some resistors it looks like. Dunno which type of resistors to buy and ppl at advanced wont kno jack s**t like normal lol soo. I mean their cant be 1 type of resistor. And how many do u think i need?

bump. I really want to stop bumping BUT i need to kno the following:
*what type of resistor do i have to get?
*how many?
*do any of u have extra resistors u can sell me?
*Do I really need a resistor or can i connect for the LED's to get power from a different fuse with different amperage like now their getting power from a 10 amp fuse how about a 35 amp?
