i just got a clifford g5, it has options like remote start, led screen, trunk pop, hood pin shock sensors like that. its good s**t.
the guy that sold it to me said like basically all alarms are based on the same circutry and recently clifford pretty muhc bought all of the little companies or something, and clifford is like the highest quality

:edit: make sure you get a hoodpin with your alarm. cuz otherwise they can pull this little cord that runs somewhere under the fenders that goes from the hood poping switch inside the car to the latch itself. they pull that, they can go in and clip you wires and stuff, and walah! no alarm to worry about. the hood pin makes it so if the hood goes up when the alarm is on it goes off. very important

i do these installs at work. actually, directed electronics makes viper and clifford. the clifford 3.5x is the all in one unit, just like the viper 791 xv. they are identical in wires and everything, just different color remotes. the clifford 3.5x was taken off the shelf this year and replaced by the 791 xv. for next year, we should have clifford again. i got the clifford 2.5 x for my brother in law's 2000 SI. he didn't want remote start.

as for the hoodpin switch, it is included in the package, but we recomment you get the mercury switch. it's more efficient and doesn't rust out. it's like $15, but cheaper for me. when you life the hood, the mercury moves to the other side and hits the sensor and triggers the alarm.

Can you put remote start on a manual? I didn't think you could... wouldn't the clutch pedal have to be depressed and make sure its outta gear??

you could do a remote start on a stick, it needs some type of override. just gotta make sure u don't leave the car in gear. if you remote start it while in gear, the car will start to jerk forward and can cause some damage.

as for the mercury switch, it's a little plastic enclosure with mercury inside. when the hood is closed, fine. when you open the hood, the mercury slides to the other side and sets the alarm off when it touches the sensor. if you can, get the horn mounted from under the car. we had a guy who wanted to install a new alarm. his horn was somewhere under a motor mount and we couldn't reach it. good idea.

i had the matrix up until february. they then switched it up for the viper. it's exactly the same alarm, it just says viper instead of matrix. the only difference between them is the remote on the matrix is carbon fiber look and the remote on the viper is a nice blue color.

We carry the Direst Electronics products (Viper and Clifford) where I work, almost everyone there who has a alarm on their car has the top of the line Clifford. Go with either of them cause they are very similar. Go with Mercury switches like Boricuacvc said. They are way more accurate than a simple pin switch. It uses liquid mercury to trigger the alarm. The remote start has a pretty good range on it. The remote lets you know both visual and audible if something is wrong with your car. But you only get one remote and its like another 80 bucks for a second one.

I got the Viper 791 xv installed on my car with 4 pins to go around. It works really well. I picked it up from ebay for $240 shipped with insurance, the thing that killed me was installation. Every place i went to wanted $350 or more to install it. That sucked!

Id agree with what mostly everyone says, go with DEI. Trusted, and known for auto theft deterrents. If DEI is too costly, Id say go with Crimestopper. I havent heard anything bad with them either. If its still too costly, just go with something off ebay and get it PROPERLY installed. Ive installed many alarms off ebay with no problems. Like Thor, BMW Nitro (has the coolest remotes Ive seen), and others.

Only thing I disagree on is the mercury switch. What if your parked on a hill or something? Ive had customers come back complaining about that, saying they couldnt arm there alarm cause of that. Just go get the hoodpin switch installed at a spot where water cannot reach it. Trust me, it isnt that hard to find a spot for it, just lazy installers to look for it. If you have the alarm already and sitll need help installing it, PM me and I'll guide you through it NO COST.

And if you DO go with the mercury switch, you can find them on ebay for $5 ;)
