So I have horrendous seasonal allergies, almost debilitating when they reach their worst. My question is since I cannot get in to see my allergist for another week, what do you others with allergies do to survive the bad season?

I was getting shots for my allergies for a long time but when I moved back across the state I stopped, figuring the more moist climate would suffice. I was wrong. I went to work today at my usual 6:45am and didn't even make it until 9am before I had to leave. I couldn't stop sneezing, my ears are popping, my throat is drying out, and my eyes are almost swollen shut. Suggestions?

My allergies don't get insanely bad but they do get bad enough where it disrupts my daily behavior and activities. I take claritin and that s**t clears me right up.

Moist/humid climate may be worse (more mold spores). I think you should get back on the shots and keep up on them religiously. Personally, Allegra works for me most of the time but not always.

Allegra huh. Well then, when I run into town, I will grab some of that stuff. Thanks for those ideas.

And damned it would be a prescription wouldn't it.
If you call his/her office, the doctor who administered your allergy shots may be willing to write you an Allegra prescription and call it into your local pharmacy. Give it a try.

Would it figure that he is out of town for the week?

On a positive note, though not my allergist, my family doc said that he had a cancellation at 3:30 so he could squeeze me in then. He said it may not just be my allergies, it might be this viral flu that is going around....

Yeah, with the weekend already here, have the doc check you out. Who knows, you may just need an oil change or tune up.=)

Seriously,

My mom has suffered for decades from really bad allergies, her perscriptions didn't help much, as a last resort they recommended she see a acupuncturist, instantly she felt better and is 100% better, she's been going for 2 months now.

Claritin and Allegra did nothing for me. I tried Target's up&up allergy medicine and it helped. It usually affected my eyes worse with my gas perm. contacts. I've called off work before because I couldn't get my contacts in to see anything. My eye specialist had me use Naphcon-A drops to help but it doesn't work for me either.

im looking at allegra right now lol. i work in a pharmacy... the pharmacist said his top three would be allegra, zyrtec, and flonase(same thing as nasonex) different drugs work better for different people. so it varies on the person
