Any tips on removing PCV grommet from breather box?

Went to change my pcv valve today and thought I should change the grommet as well. Turns out it’s a lot harder to get out than I anticipated (at least with it mounted to the car).

I tried prying with a flat head screwdriver but it just ended up detaching part of the flange on the grommet. At that point I just stopped, and used some silicone grease on the damaged area and put new pcv valve in.

Haven't noticed any issues driving or at idle but I do plan on replacing it next oil change. Any tips on removing it without having to take off intake manifold to get to the top bolt of the box? Also say it wasn’t sealing properly now, would that create any performance issues?

I’ve attached pics of where it’s located and also how much of the flange split from the body of the grommet. Thanks

That grommet notoriously gets hard as a rock over time. Before you break it off, check your local parts stores for a replacement. You can attempt the local Honda dealer but I want to say the grommet gasket is no longer in production.

Rock Auto may be your best option.

Yes I have the replacement that’s why I tried to replace it. Did you read the post and the issue I ran into?

Of course I read it.....

You can remove the breather from the engine block easier with 1 bolt and then you can replace the grommet within a few seconds and reinstall. Looks like you dont need the service manual from your above screenshot. But if you do, they are in my signature on my website.

I thought it’s two bolts and one is under the intake manifold so have to remove that as well?

The breather box bolts to the engine block. As I recall its only one 10mm bolt (might be two). The breather box has a thick gasket ring that helps the breather stay in place. There is a hose that will go from the block breather, up to the PCV which is mounted on the intake manifold. A second hose goes from the PCV to the IM.

Again you can download the service manuals from my website. ;)
