Besides getting a used one, the only Type R front lips that I've seen everywhere are the ABS plastic ones. So I picked a place (www.islandmotorsports.com) and bought one. I bring it home... and the *$&#% thing has horrible fit. The sides are at too wide of an angle. I can bent it a little, but it wants to pull outward... and I know that eventually it's going to deform the bumper.

Is there a way to get it to mount better?

The one I got is made in Taiwan, and has the front part which curves over the bottom part of the front bumper opening. It came with just 4 self drilling screws.

Is jdmshit.com better?

I got mine from jdmshit. Same ABS and 4 screws. The ends do angle out a bit,but I'm not worried. Although, I haven't really had any time to really check the fitment. It looks like it'll be ok. I plan on using some double sided tape in the middle and a bit on the sides if I have too.

BTW, how much did you pay for yours?

Damn, that's a good price. I got the front lip, rear lip and grill shipped for $200. I think I got a pretty good deal on 3 pieces. I'm in the process of moving so the lip may be a while, but hopefully not! I'll post up pics when I am done.

THREAD JACKER!!!

To the others though... shipping is a killer. Shipping on the stupid lip is like $30-40. Because I picked up, I saved lots of $$. However, if the damn thing won't fit, then that's just $50 down the drain.

So does anybody know how to make the ABS plastic lips fit?

Crap man. I was on vacation in LA when I stopped by to save shipping money. Now I'm back home (6 hours away) and I can't just drop by again.

BTW, the label sticker on the lip itself said 96-98 civic, so it's labeled for my car.

So... for those of you with the same ABS lip I have, did you put all 4 screws at the wheel well ends of the lip? Or do you also put some at the bottom into the bumper cover?

There should be two small areas that stick out a little bit on the bottom of the lip. You can go to Lowe's or Home Depot and check in the "Specialty" tray in the nuts/bolts/retainers. section. You should be able to find automitve clips there that will help you out.

If you don't plan on removing you lip and you arent shy, you can drill a few pilot holes along the upper edge of lip and use pop rivets to add some support to the lip/bumper connection. Save some touch up paint from when you painted your lip and you can cover the rivets up with that.

Rear lip is a little more difficult if it just came with the bolts and not factory clips. X2 sided tape doesn't work too well as the lip has very little area in which it actually contacts the rear bumper. You'd need to build a shim and x2 both sides of the shim to make good surface-to-surface tape contact.

my mugen lip that i got from phasenine.com fits exactly the same, it's too wide on the sides, I had to drill 2 screws on each side and 2 in the middle as well.

Also... I bought some paint matched spray paint at Kragen. The guy had no idea what primer would be need for ABS plastic (he'd never heard of it), as primer is mostly for metal. He said to paint directly on the plastic.

Should I use a primer first? If so, what kind?

Just to get it outta the way... A real paint sprayer or air brush will give you a more controlled stream in part because of the constant pressure through the regulator.

If you're going to use a can primer, I'd just suggest that you make sure you clean, sand, and clean the lip properly. As far as the primer is concerned you should be OK.

Hey, do you guys know how the EK9 lips from Autodynamic.com fit?
I know there are a lotta cheaper shops, but Autodynamic.com is the only one that ships to Germany.

Thanx a lot!
