I will turbo my car in the near future, (summertime) but I have a bit of a problem... Slow car+no money= still a slow car. if thqat made any sense. I'm looking at turbo kits, and heres my problem. I want a turbo, and I dont want my engine to explode, but I DONT WANT TO PAY ALOT. The kits come with ridiculous ammounts of parts and hoses, is EVERYTHING in the kit absolutely neccesary?

Help a noob out here, how can i put together a turbo kit to suit my needs= its a daily driver and im looking for added HP without all the fancy frilly of a 3200 dollar kit. i need to know the bare minimum ammount of parts i need. Of course i need a turbo, and ill buy an intercooler eventually, but what else do i need to make it run and run safe?

edit- i just came off like i have $12 to spend and im looking to find a turbo in a cereal box. i am serieous about a turbo, problem is i dont have enough for a nice kit, i have like 1200 and thats assuming i dont buy new rims and tires right away. so anyways... help?

1200 is enough to buy a good used kit. Check ebay and brows the classifieds here, turbod16, honda-tech and place like that and you find a good one. If not read up on the thiings you need, its cheaper to peice together one, but it takes a while.
Some things youll need:
turbo
Intake mani
charge pipe
down pipe
vaccum hoses
feed line
return line

thinks thats about it.

i clearly have stated that currently i have 1200 dollars, which after looking on ebay is MORE than enough to buy a d series kit, and by summertime ill have at least 1500. so i have money, i just dont want to buy a 3000 dollar kit when i know i dont need a 3000 dollar kit.

you dont need cai with turbo bc there is a pipe that connects to the intake mani and goes to the ic, leaving no where to put cai, but there IS a way you can do both but i dont think its really needed

god i look like a post whore now on this thread

y7 has thinner rods... dont get boost happy on stock internals.... I'd suggest building the block FIRST.... that way you won't end up broke without a car as opposed to broke with a slow car 8)

^^thats what i'm saying, y7 isnt a good platform to boost, not to mention it has a horrible aftermarket, and think about it, is it really going to be worth it?.a y8 swap might better suit you, depending on money, then if you still arent happy with the y8, you could boost that since it'd take 5-6lbs on stock internals SAFELY AND RELIABLY.i would suggest even doing a mini me but your still stuck with that y7 block which is not boost worthy.so if i were you, do a y8 swap then if you want more, boost it, thats the best option for you if you ask me

boost the y7 just make sure its tuned ...you wont have any problems...thats the problem nowadays with these kids..they think their motors suck so therefor the continue to blow up but in all actuality their fuel management and ignition sucks big fat d**k and thats the #1 cause for screwing up a boosted motor.

get a turbo + mani...downpipe...all charge pipes can be custom made...oil return and feed line..blow off valve and an intercooler and you're set. on top of that id recommend at a minimum..msd btm and 440cc injectors controlled by afc hack with a dyno tune to top it off. youll be boostin ATLEAST 8-9 psi daily no problem.

wow you just killed his low budget project  and i hope you werent referring to me being a "kid nowadays".face it, y7s are s**t, and if you do decide to listen to 1sckcvc, dont come crying to me when you have no running car at all after running ATLEAST 8-9 psi daily "without problems" on a stock y7  .tuned or not, bad decision.someone back me up since i know what i'm talking about .....

where the hell did you get those figures, the I have no idea what i'm talking about store? dude even i know a stock engine shouldnt run over 7 psi, hell im not even planning on running more than 6 psi.
and h23vtecturbohatch, yeah i understand the y7 is probably the least impressive engine in the inport tuning scene, ill probably get made fun of for working on it, but hey, im not looking for 200 hp on 10psi of boost with thousands of dollars in tuning to boot. i was just thinking i could do maybe 5-6 psi, keep it a reliable daily driver, but make it as fast as it looks you know?

you guys dont think the y7 could handle 5-6 psi? there is a guy on cardomain that has a turbod y7, dynod at 170 hp...auto tranny too untill just recently. that was kinda my inspiration lol.
