IMO most alarms are the same, as long as it's a fairly popular brand you shouldn't have trouble and it'll work just like all the others...

my only advice is get remote start, i enjoyed the one i had...i had a Python i got from Circuit City

depends what suits your needs. There are some that come with different sensors such as tilt, proximity, shock... I have an audiovox 2way pager and it works fine for me, good range and response. I opted to add an extra siren, battery and prox sensor. I'd also recommend getting it from best buy or someplace like that since they include installation and will program it the way you want. Search around and compare features and price but i'd stay with viper/compustar/clifford/audiovox

i haven't heard anything about clifford, i have the Viper 5500, i love it. It's got all the goodies, keyless entry, remote start, and it has a feature where if someone stands to long next to it, the alarm will go off - and its LOUD. Theres a tiny sensor you put in your windsheild and back window to detect that and another plus is you can turn that particular feature on and off. Most of the time mines off for the sheer fact that hard rain and wind set it off:D

Then again your also paying for what you get, heres the line of Viper Alarms:

I'll toss in a word for Viper. I have had the same Viper Alarm in my car for 7 years and it still works like day one. I have had to replace my remote battery recently, but other then that ive had ZERO problems with it.

yea i hate those touchy alarms that wind sets them off, that alarm sounds annoying, like when if it's parked outside in my driveway and my dad's just standin out there gettin fresh air close to my car and he sets it off lol...

most alarms let you set how sensitive it is.....however people hardly bother using it. I for one use pretty much the lowest setting.

DEI makes Viper

"What's the best alarm?"
There really is no "best" alarm. Basically you just choose an alarm based on your budget and priorities. Anything made/owned by DEI is a safe bet. Many of their lines have exactly the same models just with different packaging, ie Python, Viper, Clifford Matrix. Compustar makes some very long range two-way paging alarms, but I've found these to be more difficult to install for the DIYer. I've had good luck with Autopage and Shelby alarms and some others. But if you don't know what to look for on your first alarm, just get a DEI.

i think most brand name alarms will be fine...you can set sensitivity and stuff...so you can make it that if some one bruchses past your car it will go off...it get annoying after a while though...my friend had a viper alarm in his car and i used to drive to his house...park next to him and REV....jus so that itll go off and he'll come out...

I work at Best Buy car audio as a salesman and I find it hard to believe that and 18 year old is an installer there? Oh well my favorite would be the Viper 791XVR, and I don't know who said it but I'm pretty certain you can't have auto start in a manual. Though besides that the 791 has everything you would need without a doubt.
