What do you think are the best racing seats for the money and why?

Define a "racing seat" first. Are you talking about a floor-mounted bucket? Or a rail / slider mounted reclinable?

I've used a variety of seats over the years - Sparco, OMP, Recaro - and my favorite is Recaro.

Sparco is alright, although I think they fade faster than any other brand of seats. Firm padding all the way around, that being the biggest reason why I think they're cool.

OMP is not a brand most people use / know of but I had a couple of their buckets in an AE86 Corolla and they were great for canyon country. Not heavily padded, but that's understandable considering they are competition seats.

Recaros are just great all the way around. Great construction quality, good durable fabrics. I have the stock Recaros in my Evo but I'm selling them and picking up some carbon/kevlar back Recaros for the bling points - and they are FIA certified. I've thus owned a set of SRD and a set of Style seats and can't complain one bit. I'm currently using HKS Kansai seat bracket / rail combo as I'm 6'3" and these bring the seat down 30mm.

Brides are narrow as hell and the construction quality as far as the fabric just doesn't seem very high. My shoulders and thighs just don't seem to fit in these damn seats. Midget JDM dudes are cool with em, I guess. Yes, they do give you a low sitting position but that's due to the thin padding they use for your ass.

Some other brands you might wanna look into are Momo and Cobra. Momo Street Racer GT seats are pretty nice. Not overly padded. A buddy of mine has a set of Cobra in his Supra and they are pretty pimpin.

At the end of the day, I think you'll do well with Italian-made seats. Any of the Italian brands named above should serve your needs well.

you can usually make a conversion bracket that use the stock sliders/brackets
but... it depends on your seats and on what seats you get

usually not very costly, just materials... $20 or so

i have sparco speeds that i got from turbo95eg6 and i love them :thumbs up

Bride rails (which are about 1" lower) fit Bride and Sparcos for sure. Sparco rails suck (they used to be made by Wedge Engineering but not anymore) cuz they place the seat so damn high using off-the-shelf sliders, where as the Bride sliders are super low profile. I believe they fit Recaros but I can't be sure. I would just get rail / sliders from an existing company. The Bride rails (and the HKS Kansai in my Evo) are really well made. Weld quality is where it's at. And they use allen bolt mounting hardware. You may also want to contact "Super" Mario at GSR Fabrication in Gardena, CA. He was on an episode of Monster Garage not too long ago. EVERYONE on that episode was amazed at his fab and especially his welding skills. He charges $60 an hour for labor (yep, $1 a minute) but he works quick and can make anything. I'm gonna ask him to make a custom coolant and oil surge tank (single tank, two separate compartment) for the Evo out of stainless. I'm sure that he can fabricate something beautiful and functional if you want to go custom.

I would say Bride. I've sat in both Bride and Recaros and I like the Brides alot better. they felt more comfortable.

but he said, "for the money"....unless you got a trash bag for a pocket boot....brides with takata harnesses are gonna be outta most of our price ranges.....

just stay away from APC, Konig, and other cheapo brands...def Sparco, Momo, and Corbeau are pretty good seats though...just prioritize comfort or support...there are few happy mediums that are somewhat cheap

recaro is overated.... real real comfortable and nice ....but just too much money imo for just something to sit in. You can buy a leather couch or even a motor for 2000. I would love to have them instead of my replicas but not for that money.. I love the way my replicas feel. Much better than stock and i still have money. Try NRG.. jdm car boy and robearracing sell them.
