the reason for higher head unit output voltage is to combat noise..... The vehicle environment is an electrically noisy one. you'll get better dynamics, headroom and much less hiss from the signal. This means you can turn it up as loud as a 2 or 4 volt HU, but with cleaner and better sound quality that you can easily notice
so i should go with all these then to start.....

yeah that will power the door speakers. you can run the rears off headunit power until you get a sub.

10w7 in the proper box off the proper power is gonna be expensive...jl makes some good stuff but there's TONS better for the money

Uhhh, unless you get one used for very cheap the JL W7 is going to blow your whole budget on just the sub. JLs are not budget subs. Then there is the money it is going to cost to buy and amp to run it correctly. You are easy going to be over $500 for just the sub and box.
CRAIGSLIST! i got a 15" mtx 7500 sub for $60 and on onlinecarstereo.com got a crunch pzi1000? well it was the 1000 watt amp for 109.00 then got 8 ga wiring for 35ish and a sony xplod gt-710 head unit for 150. 400 bucks got me a system loud as hell and never had to worry bout the amp overheating cause crunch knows how to make amps really really well for a good price. for rear speakers go with audiobahn. they got 30 0z magnets and if hooked up to an amp sound almost as good as havin some subs. just not as much bass. for a box, get that mdf wood (what ever you call it) map out where you wanna put a sub box and just start shapin a box to fit in that area. just look up the sub online and see what size box is recomended and go from there on the volume of the box. use 3/4 wood or else your gonna have a crappy box. i learned the hard way cause my box tended to vibrate alot where as the new box i built with 3/4 was sturdier and actually louder. good luck!

dont be afraid of buying used. You'll end up saving a ton of money if you pick up used equipment.
dont be afraid of picking up old school equipment, just do your research. You'll often find great oldschool stuff on craigslist and what not
when buying wire, remember, just do it right the first time. This is ur first system, chances are ur going to want to upgrade the first time. Just spend the extra bucks and buy 1/0 wire, and run it to a distribution block and 4 gauge from there
dont get caught up in gimicks like sony xplod, and whatever other crap they're trying to sell u at best buy and forget that the term 'max power' even exists
remember that ur sub only be as good as the enclosure you put it in. Try and put some work in and build your own box to spec.
dont ever underestimate sound deadening, it's one the greatest investments you can make, for car audio
