will this works? Basically, I just want to add one box of a sub in my trunk w/ mono amp to power it (leave the rest alone, like 4 speakers & 2 lil tweeters). Just something to shake the trunk of my car.

I'm looking @

Kenwood's KFC-W3011 12" subwoofer $54.00
Alpine MRP-M450 Mono subwoofer amplifier 400 watts RMS x 1 at 2 ohms $149.99
Trash..the best bang for the buck subwoofer is the alpine type r

Just curious, are you looking for a clean hitting subwoofer? Or just a loud one? I've had two Type R's, and they were alright for the time being. I recently got a JL W3 and it has so much cleaner bass than the Type R. All you need to power that Type R is that MRP-M450, I had the same thing going to just one of my Type R's before I got another with a bigger amp.

what's your current set up? I would prefer a clean hitting subwoofer like u says, but just loud enough so that the cars behind know it's there. I don't plan on buyin & then replacin em later.

for the time being I just want quality mono amp + 12' sub, then add a couple speakers @ kick panels + another big amp later to boost the whole set up. Something like this =)

Right now I have 2 JL VR650CSi's(http://www.crutchfield.com/App/Product/Item/Main.aspx?g=410&i=136VR650CS&tp=106) powered by a MTX Blue Thunder Pro 150x2 amp, the back speakers are still stock and I don't plan on doing anything to them.

Then I have 1 ported JL W3v3(http://www.crutchfield.com/App/Product/Item/Main.aspx?g=520&i=13612W3V34&tp=111) in the trunk powered by a JL A1400(http://www.crutchfield.com/App/Product/Item/Main.aspx?g=120&i=136A1400&tp=115)

It hits hard, and you can definitely hear it when I'm in front of you. I tend to keep it low because I had 4000 watts going to 2 Type R's in my old Ford Explorer, so I've had enough of that much bass :P

I bought my component speakers off eBay for around $200, then I bought everything else but the MTX speaker at a car audio shop just so I'd have warranty on it.

Definitely check out www.onlinecarstereo.com for cheaper prices than crutchfield though.

the best sub and amp I've EVER had was the KX series Kicker amp and a Memphis 15" subwoofer.... Power Reference series.

Honestly with 2 pairs of really nice speakers and a 4 channel amp you dont need a sub and box
